University to Close January 21 in Observance of MLK Day
In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Drexel University and the Drexel University College of Medicine will be closed on January 21, 2008.
All classes and medical clerkships are cancelled and all business offices are closed, including Drexel University Physicians (the clinical practices of the Drexel University College of Medicine).

Circle K to Help Renovate Bache Martin Elementary for MLK Day
January 21, 2008, is a national day of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Circle K will volunteer at the Bache Martin Elementary School on that day to honor Dr. King's legacy. Volunteers will help renovate the school by painting the rooms.
Complimentary coffee and donuts will be served to volunteers by the school in the morning and the school will also provide pizza for lunch.
All are welcome. Those interested in volunteering are asked to meet at 9:30 a.m. in front of Towers Hall (34th and Arch Streets). Volunteers will travel together to the school and return no later than 3 p.m.
It is necessary to know how many people will volunteer to work with Circle K in advance, so those who are interested are asked to contact Theresa at tmp46@drexel.edu or Dyna at dh77@drexel.edu as soon as possible.
Circle K International is the world's largest collegiate service organization. Circle K Clubs are found at over 500 college campuses in eleven nations. Each club provides thousands of service hours each year in a variety of projects both on a local level and on a world wide level. The Drexel chapter of Circle K became chartered in the fall of 2002.
Circle K holds their regular meetings on Sundays at 7 p.m. in Calhoun Hall (33rd and Arch Streets).

Volunteers Needed for MLK Day of Service Coat and Blanket Drive
The Office of Multicultural Programs, Residential Living, Student Life, and the Center for Civic Engagement are sponsoring a coat and blanket drive for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, which will be observed on Monday, January 21, 2008.
Those interested in volunteering on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service to help sort and distribute coats and blankets should contact the Center for Civic Engagement at cce@drexel.edu or 215-895-6130.
The coats and blankets (new or gently used) are being collected now through Monday, January 21.

Africana Studies Internship Opportunity
In honor of the upcoming Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, Africana Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences announces its new internship opportunity in partnership with Girls, Inc., a non-profit agency that works with at-risk youth in our city.
"AFAS 298: Global Urban Education: Girls, Inc." is a new internship course that allows students to gain valuable experience while working and mentoring inner-city youth in our area. Students interested in participating as volunteers or for credit should contact Prof. Kali Nicole Gross at kng25@drexel.edu.

MAD Dragon Artists to Appear on David Letterman Show
MAD Dragon artists, The Redwalls, will appear on Late Night with David Letterman on CBS-TV on Wednesday, January 23, 2008.
This major booking is the latest for the Chicago-based band, formerly under contract to Capitol Records. Drexel University's student-run record label released the Redwalls' latest CD last fall and the group has been touring since then to promote the album, gaining national media coverage for the CD and MAD Dragon Records.
The band previously toured the world with groups such as Oasis, Keane, Kaiser Chiefs, Rooney and OK Go and performed on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and "The Tonight Show."
MAD Dragon Records is housed in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design.

History Comes Alive at the Mandell Theater with "Dancing Through Time"
The Drexel Dance Ensemble
will present its winter dance concert "Dancing Through Time," January
24 through January 26, 2008, at 8 p.m. in Mandell Theater (33rd and Chestnut
Streets).
The Dance Ensemble's performance will make history its theme in a selection
of student-choreographed pieces and world premiere works by Dr. Miriam Giguere,
the director of the Dance Program in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media
Arts & Design. The work of Philadelphia choreographer Stephen Welsh and
Marianela Boan, Cuba's best known avant-garde choreographer, will also be featured.
The performance is open to the public. Tickets are $5 for students and $8 for general admission.

Organizations (CEO) program will offer a workshop, "Give a Damn,"

University Procurement to Host Furniture Vendor Fair
University Procurement will host the second Drexel University Procurement Furniture Vendor Fair on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Behrakis Grand Hall, (32nd and Chestnut Streets).
Furniture vendors will be on campus displaying seating, case goods, office systems, and lounge furniture consistent with Drexel's preferred furniture standards. For the first time there will be preferred vendors displaying the latest products in laboratory furniture. Representatives from University Procurement, and the departments of Facilities and Planning, Design, and Construction will be present to provide useful information and guidelines for attendees.
In addition to the furniture fair, staff members from the Planning, Design and Construction Departments of the University City Main Campus and both of the Drexel University College of Medicine campuses will conduct two furniture buying workshops.
The first workshop will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at 10 a.m. and the second workshop will be held at 1:30 p.m. in rooms 2019 and 2020 of MacAlister Hall (32nd and Chestnut Streets).

Student Counseling Center to Present "Eating Healthier in the New Year"
The Student Counseling Center will present a workshop "Eating Healthier in the New Year," today, January 17, 2008, from noon to 1 p.m. in room 310 of the Bellet Building (15 th and Race Streets) on the Center City Hahnemann Campus.
This workshop will address strategies to stick with the New Year's resolution to eat healthier. The latest scientifically-supported nutrition principles will be discussed as well as ways to make healthful eating a more enjoyable and realistic part of a busy lifestyle. Tips for navigating tempting situations such as eating at restaurants or dinner parties will be shared. Recipes for quick, healthy dishes will be provided and participants are invited to bring their own recipes to share

New Drexel Winter Shuttle Loop
Drexel Transportation announces a Winter Shuttle Loop on the University City Main Campus through the winter term. This new shuttle will run in a continuous loop, approximately every 15 minutes during the evening hours beginning at 5 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the Winter Shuttle Loop.
The shuttle will pick-up at Caneris Hall (115 N. 32nd Street), Kelly/Myers Quad (34th and Race Streets), and the Creese Student Center (32nd and Chestnut Streets). The shuttle is sponsored by the Division of Student Life and Administrative Services.

Dance the night away at CAB's Annual Crystal Ball on Friday, February 8, 2008, from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. The evening includes dinner and music at the Park Hyatt Hotel at the Bellevue in Philadelphia.
Bus transportation will be provided for students to and from the event. Buses will depart at 6:30 p.m from the Creese Student Center. Buses will begin returning students to campus at 11 p.m.
Tickets will go on sale Tuesday, January 22, at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person or $30 a couple and are limited to two per undergraduate Drexel ID.
The CAB office is located in MacAlister Hall between the Drexel Bookstore and Mandell Theater.

Arthur Miller's "The Price" at the Walnut Street Theater
The Campus Actives Board (CAB) is offering a trip to see "The Price" by Arthur Miller at the Walnut Street Theater. The trip will take place Thursday, January 24, 2008, at 7 p.m. SEPTA tokens will be provided for transportation.
Tickets are $15 for Drexel students.
Tickets can be purchased at the CAB office, located between the Drexel Bookstore and Mandell Theater, MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut Streets). Tickets are on sale Monday through Friday, noon to 1 p.m., and Monday through Thursday, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Hagerty Library Offers Free Speed Reading Workshops
Hagerty Library and the Drexel chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) are co-sponsoring free speed reading workshops open to all Drexel students. In an effort to serve the largest possible audience, these hour-long workshops will be offered four times on both Saturday, January 19, and Sunday, January 20, 2008,. The times for these workshops are the same both days: 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. They will be held in Room L-33 (The Mary Hagerty Learning Lab) in the lower level of Hagerty Library.
