Honorary Degree Recipients

Drexel will celebrate Commencement 2004 with four ceremonies honoring graduates of our eight colleges and schools on the University City Main Campus. The June 12 ceremonies will be held at the John A. Daskalakis Athletic Center. All commencement ceremonies will be Webcast live at www.drexel.edu.

Bennett S. LeBow College of Business

Victoria Principal
Entrepreneur, businessperson, author, film and television producer and a star of the highly successful CBS series Dallas

Ms. Principal wrote the 2001 book Living Principal: Looking and Feeling Your Best at Every Age and is the founder of Principal Secret Skin Care. Ms. Principal appears regularly on QVC in support of her product line. She will receive a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa.

 

Joseph Jacovini, Esq.
Chairman of Dilworth Paxson LLP and chairman of the Drexel University Board of Trustees

With more than 35 years of experience in private practice at Dilworth Paxson, Mr. Jacovini's work focuses on all facets of corporate law, finance and governance involving public, private, for-profit, not-for-profit and governmental entities. Mr. Jacovini was honored as the 2004 recipient of the Premier Philadelphia Pinnacle Award, recognizing individuals who have reached the highest levels of career achievement and public service. He will receive a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa.

Lynn Fritz
Founder, director general of the Fritz Institute

The Fritz Institute enhances the operations capabilities of humanitarian relief organizations by mobilizing resources and expertise from the corporate and academic communities. Drawing on its network of logistics and operations experts in the corporate and academic sectors, the Fritz Institute facilitates the study of innovations and challenges in humanitarian relief operations. He will receive a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.

 
 

Richard C. Goodwin
Drexel alumnus (‘48) and chairman of Goodwin Enterprises

Mr. Goodwin is the benefactor of the Goodwin Holocaust Museum and Education Center at the Katz Jewish Community Center of Southern New Jersey in Voorhees, N.J. He is active in philanthropic efforts for the American Friends of Neve Shalom/Wahat-Al Salam. The Goodwin College of Professional Studies is named in his honor. Mr. Goodwin will receive a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa .

Peter Nero
Two-time Grammy Award-winning pianist and founder of the world-renowned Philly Pops

Renowned for his application of technology in the arts, Mr. Nero has performed at the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall and Royal Albert Hall. His Drexel honorary degree coincides with the 25th anniversary of his founding of the Philly Pops. Mr. Nero will receive a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa.

Suzanne Roberts
Emmy Award-winning television creator and host of cable TV's Seeking Solutions with Suzanne

Dedicated to public service, Ms. Roberts has performed in USO shows and acted in plays that discourage racism and alcoholism. The 2002 and 2003 Mid Atlantic Emmy Award winner for “Outstanding Individual Achievement — Host/Magazine and Specials,” Roberts has worked with emotionally disturbed children and is committed to bringing focus to a range of societal issues. “Seeking Solutions with Suzanne,” broadcast to over 20 million viewers, seeks to both inform and entertain the over 50 audience, with a goal toward improving lives and the journey of aging. Ms. Roberts will receive a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa.

 
 

Eugene Garfield, Ph.D.
Founder of The Scientist

Dr. Garfield is an information science pioneer who has developed new information tools for researchers and research laboratories. He is also chairman emeritus of the Institute for Scientific Information, now Thompson Scientific, which is a leading global provider of integrated information solutions. Dr. Garfield will received a Doctor of Science, honoris causa.
