Early Decision Admission Option

Students applying for freshman admission are offered the choice of applying Early Decision or Regular Decision. If you are certain that Drexel University is your first-choice college and are ready to make a commitment, you may apply Early Decision. Students applying as Early Decision candidates may not apply to the BA/BS/MD or BS/MS in Psychology accelerated degree programs.

Early Decision is a binding decision. This means that if you are offered admission, you must attend Drexel University and withdraw any applications submitted to other schools.

Extended Deadline Update for Students Affected By Hurricane Sandy

Drexel instituted an Early Decision program this year with a deadline of November 15, 2012 and an admissions decision available by mid-December. Because of the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy, however, we are extending the deadline for students who have been affected by the storm and who may find it difficult to submit all required materials by November 15. The extended deadline for students so affected is December 7. Please be aware that if a student submits an application and materials by December 7, he/she will receive a decision by mid-January.

Early Decision Application Process

The following items must be submitted by November 15, 2012:

  • All freshman application requirements.
  • Early Decision Contract [PDF]
The Early Decision Contract is binding and applicants are not permitted to apply to any other school under an early decision plan. (Students are permitted to apply to other schools under a nonbinding early action plan, regular decision, or rolling decision.) The student, parent, and high school guidance counselor will be required to sign the Early Decision Contract. Students admitted under the Early Decision process may be released only for compelling financial reasons and may not reapply to Drexel University using the Regular Decision process.
  • CSS Profile
Students whose parents are divorced, separated, or were never married must request that the noncustodial parent file a CSS Noncustodial Profile as well.

Drexel will notify you of your admission decision through the Discover Drexel Portal in mid-December.

If you are offered admission through Early Decision, you must confirm your intent to enroll and submit your tuition deposit and housing deposit by January 15, 2013. Please note that admission through the Early Decision process only applies to the undergraduate major to which you applied, not to any accelerated option.

Students who apply but are not offered admission through Early Decision may, depending on the strength of their applications, be considered for regular admission. These students will learn their decisions by March 28, 2013.

All other applicants, applying for Regular Decision, will learn their decisions by March 28, 2013.

Financial Aid

Early Decision applicants will be considered for all types of aid offered by Drexel University. If you are offered Early Decision admission you will receive a Financial Aid Package from Drexel University in mid-December which will estimate the aid that you can expect to receive. This package may include both merit- and need-based aid.

You and your family will be expected to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 1, 2013 so that an official Financial Aid Package can be created.
