When the World Meets Drexel Snapshot Challenge-
Vote Now!

The snapshots will be exhibited from April 13th through April 17th in the Creese lobby display case for admiration and voting. 
The three snapshots with the most votes will be award a prize.  These photos will also be displayed at the newly opened Student Organization Resource Center (SORC). 
1st Place – Digital Camera
2nd Place – Digital Photo Frame
3rd Place - $50 Barnes and Noble Gift Card
The winners will be announced at the World Fusion Fest-International Food Fest on Friday April 17th in Behrakis Grand Hall from 12:00 – 2:00 pm.

Intercultural Spring Arts Festival

Interfaith Dialogue Workshop

A special workshop for students facilitated by filmmaker Valarie Kaur (see Divided We Fall screening below). Valarie has emerged as a powerful voice for religious and racial dialogue from a new generation of leaders in post-9/11 America. A third-generation Sikh American, Valarie is a writer, public speaker, lecturer in religion and ethics, and award-winning filmmaker. As a Harvard Presidential Scholar, she received her master’s in theological studies at Harvard Divinity School and presently studies the intersections between religion and law in post-9/11 America at Yale Law School. She also serves as founding director of the Discrimination and National Security Initiative at the Harvard Pluralism Project.

See the award-winning documentary, Divided We Fall, followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker, Valarie Kaur. Divided We Fall is the first feature-length documentary film about hate violence in the aftermath of September 11, 2001. The film weaves together a personal journey and cross-country road trip with an authoritative examination of race, religion and American identity in the ongoing aftermath of 9/11.

Scavenger Hunt - Register Now!
Sponsored by the Office of Victim Support and Intervention Services and International Students and Scholars Services
Join us for a free interactive text-message based cultural scavenger hunt during the week of the World Fusion Fest!   During the SCAVENGER HUNT you will receive clues and challenge questions from 8398-63 (TextMe). Students will work to solve these clues and text back the correct location where the clue object is located.  Students will then run, bike, swim, hop, roll, or take public transportation to that location to answer the challenge questions and text back the correct answer.

Beware, these questions are impossible to answer unless you're actually at the right location, so get there fast. These challenge questions might require you to take a photo, in which case you can use your cellphone (and send the photo to photo@scvngr.mobi immediately) or use your digital camera and upload the photos later. Send photos to pics@scvngr.mobi with your cell number in the subject line. *Make sure to text in the word DONE for picture challenges so that you can get your next clue!

Clues will begin on Monday, April 13th and conclude on Thursday, April 16th at 4:00 pm. Winners will be announced at the International Food Festival on Friday April 17th in Behrakis Grand Hall from 12:00 – 2:00 pm.

Conversation Network Spring Reception

Interested in practicing a foreign language with a native speaker? Curious about other cultures? If so, join the Conversation Network, a forum where Drexel students can meet English Language Center (ELC) students for reciprocal language and cultural exchange. Come to the reception and mingle with ELC students from all over the world. Game prizes, pizza, and refreshments will be provided.

Buddhist Chanting Workshop

Local Buddhist ministers and practitioners from the Won Buddhist Temple of Philadelphia will give a short demonstration of Buddhist chanting meditation as well as an introduction to the basic tenets of Buddhism. A question and answer session will follow. Light refreshments will be provided.

With respect for the loss of our President, Constantine Papadakis, this event has been rescheduled to May 19th (same place and time) so that our students, faculty and staff may participate in funeral services during this same time period.
Lost Boys of Sudan Project

At this event, you will have the opportunity to meet our 2009 "Lost Boys" of Sudan Reunion Project recipient(s), along with several local and/or national celebrities supporting our cause such as Bill Zorzi, prize-winning Baltimore Sun columnist and writer, The Wire, television series. Proceeds from the "Read-A-Thon" will be used to reunite 1-2 "Lost Boys" with their families, many of whom have been separated for decades.  Suggested $1-$5 donation.

In 2007, a minimum of 1,252 people were executed in 24 countries and at least 3,347 people were sentenced to death in over 50 countries. Just five countries - China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and the USA - carried out the overwhelming majority (88%) of known executions in the world last year. What do students from across the globe think about these two controversial topics?  Let’s take a look at these issues - capital punishment and torture - engaging Drexel students from the US and other countries in an open discussion.  Refreshments will be provided.

An autobiographical short story from Nikos Papandreou’s book “Ten Myths and a Story” is now a film by director Olga Malea. “First Time Godfather” is about the California-born eldest son of a political family who goes to Crete to act as godfather to the child of a local party cadre and aspiring parliamentary deputy. He becomes a godfather for the first time to show everyone, above all his father, that he is a worthy son. His foreign appearance and shaky Greek, the local customs and the trials he undergoes to prove himself all make for tragicomic scenes with a political dimension and existential angst.
