Drexel University > Student Life > Safezone

Mission Statement
The Drexel University safezone program strives to reduce homophobia and heterosexism at Drexel University . Through education, advocacy, and awareness, safezone participants promote acceptance of individual differences and ideas in a safe, open, and inclusive climate for all members of the University community.

What is a Safezone at Drexel?
Student Life, with support from the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Grant, is pleased to announce the Safezone Program at Drexel University. This initiative is designed to educate interested staff, faculty, and students about LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning) issues and to educate about creating safe spaces on our campuses.

Safezone Training
Student Life is sponsoring the second Safezone Program Training

Friday, August 25, 2006

1:00 – 3:30 PM
East Hall Multi-Purpose Room

During the training, staff will be able to learn about and discuss topics such as: the LGBT community, definitions of commons terms, challenges of the LBGT community and its allies, and what are next steps in making your space a safe place. After completing the training, you will receive a Safezone sticker. By displaying your Safezone sticker, you declare your space to be safe. Join other faculty and staff members during this second training session.

Participants should be opened minded and expect to be challenged.
