2012 Homecoming Court Selection

The Homecoming Court Selection Committee is seeking applications for members of the Drexel Homecoming Court. Homecoming Court members serve as student representatives at Homecoming events throughout Homecoming week. The three (3) men and three (3) women chosen by the selection committee will then run in an election for the positions of Homecoming King & Queen. The Homecoming King & Queen serve as student representatives at University events throughout the year and receive a $250.00 scholarship.

Applicants must be upper class (sophomore, pre-junior, junior, senior) or graduate students, in good academic and student conduct standing, with a 2.5 minimum cumulative grade point average. 

The Selection Committee will assess applicants on three (3) categories:

  • Understanding of Drexel University's history, traditions, and mission;
  • Ability to balance academics, student involvement, and personal life;
  • Capacity to represent the student body with excellent communication and networking skills.

  • Letter of Interest: 2-page maximum, explaining your qualifications to be a member of the Homecoming Court
  • Current Resume: 2-page maximum, listing your professional, academic, and student involvement experience

Fri, Dec. 2 - Application Deadline (5:00 pm on Collegiate Link)

Jan. 9 – 12 - Homecoming Court Selection Committee Interviews (Creese 215)

Friday, Jan. 13 - Announcement of Homecoming Court (through email to all candidates & InfoNet ads)

Friday, Jan. 13 - Mandatory Homecoming Court Meeting (Friday, January 13, 5:00 – 6:00 – Location TBD)
Candidates not represented at this meeting will be disqualified from the selection process. Candidates are encouraged to identify a proxy to attend the meeting in case the candidate cannot attend. The name of the proxy is due with all application materials.

Jan. 23 – Jan 27 - Homecoming King & Queen Elections (Online via Collegiate Link)

Sat, Jan. 28 - Announcement of Homecoming King & Queen (Men's Basketball Game)
Selected members of the Homecoming Court are expected to attend several other Homecoming events throughout the week of January 23-27 (week 3 of the winter term). This information will be communicated at the Mandatory Candidate Meeting.

2012 Homecoming King & Queen Election Election Regulations

In addition to the qualifications needed to be a member of the Drexel University Homecoming Court, candidates for Homecoming King & Queen must also adhere to the following regulations throughout the election process:

  1. All campaigning for Homecoming King & Queen may begin after the Mandatory Homecoming Court Meeting – Friday January 13, 5:00pm – 6:00pm
    • Campaign materials should represent the candidate in a positive manner and may not contain references or images of the following: alcohol, drugs, drug paraphernalia, partying, racism, or sexual conduct.
    • Homecoming Court members must follow all Drexel University posting & chalking policies. Search for "posting" in the following link to the Student Handbook for specific policies
    • In addition to having any materials approved by the proper authorities for posting, 1 electronic copy (links, pdf, jpg, etc.) of all printed materials must be submitted to pcs44@drexel.edu before being posted around campus.
    • No candidate may use any pre-existing list-serves or other unsolicited messaging and or emailing to campaign.
    • The defacing or removal of other candidates' campaign materials by candidates or supporters will not be tolerated and may result in disqualification.
    • While candidates are encouraged to participate, they may not utilize the Homecoming Banner Contest to campaign for Homecoming King or Queen.
    • All candidates must assume responsibility for the conduct of their campaign workers, supporters and friends during the campaign.
    • Candidates may set-up and use Facebook and other free social networking pages specifically designed for their campaign.
    • Candidates who choose to design websites specifically for their campaign must claim fair market value for the domain on their Expenditure Form.
    • Candidates choosing to establish a slate (where one King and one Queen Candidate run together) are essentially running as one candidate and forfeit their ability to combine spending limits.
