How to Start a New Student Organization

We recommend you visit the Office of Campus Activities in Creese 215 to discuss starting a new student organization with a staff member. To set up an appointment with a staff member contact the Office of Campus Activities at askoca@drexel.edu or 215-895-1328.

We encourage all students to view the attached PowerPoint materials for complete information on starting a new group and how to successfully hit the ground running as an effective and visable student organization on campus.

How to Start a New Student Organization at Drexel University
(PowerPoint only)

Here are a few basic things to consider:

  1. Each organization must have a unique mission. Individuals seeking to start an organization cannot replicate an existing organization. The Office of Campus Activities can help you determine if an organization with the same mission already exists.
  2. To start a new group you need a minimum of ten students who support the mission of you organization. The students do not need to be officers in the organization, but you will need a president, treasurer, and advisor.
  3. For your student organization to be recognized by the Office of Campus Activities you must follow the steps in the recognition process listed on the Steps in Recognition Process page.
