Rebuilding Together Philadelphia
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Estimated Cost: $TBD$
Contact: Christie Ruggieri
Sponsoring Student Organization: Drexel Circle K

There are 60,000 low-income individuals and families in Philadelphia fortunate to own the home they live in. Of these homeowners, some are living on the streets because their homes are run down and uninhabitable. Join Drexel University’s premier community service organization, Circle K, as we tackle a major problem in our area. Circle K will be partnering with Rebuilding Together Philadelphia in order to provide critical repairs for low-income homeowners. Rebuilding Together Philadelphia is a non-profit organization that focuses on “warm, safe, and dry” issues. Participants will have the opportunity to renovate homes and help transform a neighborhood, working alongside homeowners and truly seeing the differences they are making in a family’s life. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore incredible places in Philadelphia not known by many. This trip will provide participants with a unique social experience while addressing issues which afflict our neighborhood.

Philadelphia Volunteer Project

Community Engagement Focused on Urban Poverty
Chicago, Illinois
Estimated Cost: $200 - $250
Contact: Kate Waggoner
Sponsoring Student Organization: Asbury Ministry

Through work with various church and community organizations, as well as interaction with local residents and activists, students will see Chicago through the eyes of the poor, reflecting on poverty and homelessness in an urban setting - and how they can help confront the systems that enable it.  Reflection and discussion throughout the trip will be rooted in a Christian/spiritual context, but students don't have to be Christian (or even religious) to participate.  There will also be time to explore the city, including dinner out one night.  Students are expected to participate in several pre-trip meetings/trainings, and support any trip fundraising activities as necessary.  Trip departs Saturday, March 24 and returns Saturday, March 31.  Estimated costs: $200-$250 per participant.
