Health Insurance and Immunizations

Immunizations

All students are required to have specific immunizations before coming to Drexel University. A list of these immunization requirements can be found at drexel.edu/StudentLife/ch/II_Main.html. If you do not complete the immunization requirements before coming to campus in the fall a hold can be placed on your university account.

Immunization Clinic

An immunization clinic will be held during New Student Orientation from 11:00 AM - 1:15 PM on Day One of Orientation.  We strongly encourage all students to take the immunizations during orientation since some physicians do not carry all immunizations.  The costs of the immunizations are as follows:

  • $200 per HPV (Gardasil) vaccination
  • $135 per Menactra vaccination
  • $80 per MMR
  • $85 per Hep B
  • $40 per Tetanus

Drexel University requires all entering full-time students and all international students to complete the following immunization schedule:

  • MMR vaccine: Measles, Mumps, Rubella (two doses)
  • Hepatitis B vaccine (2 doses - 3 doses are preferred)
  • PPD screening within 12 months of entering Drexel University (performed in the U.S.)
  • Varicella (chicken pox)
  • Tetanus (within the last eight to ten years)
  • For resident students: Meningococcal (one dose required prior to entry into college for students living in University housing. Any undergraduate less than 25 years old who wishes to reduce the risk of the disease can consider the vaccine. Students with immunodeficiency, such as complement deficiency or aspienia should receive the vaccine every three to five years.)

Drexel University highly recommends, but does not require, the meningitis vaccine for commuter students.

Complete Your Immunization Form

The pre-matriculation immunization requirement is based on the recommendations of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Health Immunization and the American College Health Association. You may satisfy this requirement by completing the Immunization Record which will be mailed to students prior to entering Drexel.

Health Insurance

All full-time students are required to demonstrate proof of coverage under a health insurance plan. Domestic students and Graduate International students may satisfy the requirement by waiving (submitting proof of health insurance coverage) with a plan that meets our minimum requirements as outlined on the Immunization Policy page at the Counseling and Health website or by enrolling in the Drexel Student Health Insurance Plan online. All undergraduate international students must purchase the university sponsored plan. Graduate international students holding a J-1 Visa must also purchase the university sponsored plan so that federally governed J-1 mandates are met. Failure to complete the enroll/waive process online by September 30 will result in a default enrollment into the university sponsored plan. The charge for this plan will subsequently appear on the university bill. Information will be sent to the student during the summer on how to waive or enroll online.
