Update:
2 survivors of double-fatal Pa. crash discharged
The Associated Press
Posted: 01/27/2009 09:57:08 PM EST
DANVILLE, Pa.—Two Drexel University students who survived a double-fatal crash in north-central Pennsylvania have been discharged from a hospital.
Tuesday's discharges of 19-year-old driver Andrew Cardamone and 18-year-old Kevin MacDonald means only two remain hospitalized with injuries from Sunday's crash. A nursing supervisor at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville says 18-year-old Eric Rayburn was in fair condition Tuesday night. Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre reported Adam Marsh also in fair condition.
Sunday's pre-dawn one-vehicle crash killed 21-year-old John Williamson Jr. and 22-year-old Ian Alexander. All involved were from Philadelphia and its suburbs.
It remained unclear Tuesday what caused Cardamone to lose control of the vehicle.
To The Drexel University Community:
It is with great sadness that I report that six Drexel students were in a single-car accident in north-central Pennsylvania early Sunday morning, January 25, 2008.
Two students, Ian Alexander (a senior psychology major) and John Williamson, Jr. (a senior biological sciences major), were fatally injured.
Four other students, Kevin MacDonald (a freshman engineering major), Adam Marsh (a pre-junior business and engineering major), Andrew Cardamone (a freshman architectural engineering major) and Eric Rayburn (a freshman health sciences major) are currently hospitalized.
All six students were actively engaged in campus life. They were members of Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity and leaders in Fraternity and Sorority Life. They were also involved in student orientation, intramural sports and commuter programs, and they were student employees.
President Papadakis expresses his condolences to the families of Ian Alexander and John Williamson and to their brothers in Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity, members of Fraternity and Sorority Life and all who knew them. He asks that the Drexel community keep these students and their loved ones in our thoughts and pray for a speedy recovery for the injured students.
The University has made available counseling services for those students who have been affected by this incident, through the Office of Counseling and Health. Students in need of counseling are encouraged to contact the Counseling Center at 215-895-1415.
At this time the University has no further information on the accident or the condition of the four students undergoing treatment. I continue to be in contact with the students' families. The offices of the Dean of
Students, Counseling and Health and Public Safety will continue to provide the resources the Drexel community needs to get through this difficult time.

Student Life
Dear Administration, Faculty, Chapter members,
Drexel University and the Greek Life community have suffered a tragic loss. We have lost valued members, distinguished leaders, and great friends. We pray for the 4 survivors of the accident to have a full and speedy recovery.
"John P. "Johnny" Williamson Jr., 21, of Havertown and Ian Alexander, 22, of Royersford passed away in a tragic accident at 3:30 a.m. while headed south on Rte. 15 two miles south of Liberty, state police said in a written release.
Police would not provide other details, including whether alcohol was a factor in the accident or whether the two killed had been wearing seat belts.
The four who survived the wreck, including the driver, Andrew Cardamone, 19, of Philadelphia, were all wearing seat belts, the report said. Cardamone and passengers Eric S. Rayburn, 18, of Quakertown, and Kevin A. MacDonald, 18, of Philadelphia, were taken to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where they remained in serious condition Sunday night.
Passenger Adam Marsh, 20, of Collegeville, was airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre and was in serious condition in the intensive care unit Sunday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Drexel spokesman Noah Cohen said the six undergraduates were all associated with Alpha Chi Rho fraternity's Drexel Chapter, either as members or prospective members. They were not on an official university trip, he said.
Williamson's mother, Donna Marie Williamson, 52, said police had assured her alcohol was not a factor in the accident. She said her son and his friends had been traveling between other Alpha Chi Rho chapters in Pennsylvania over the weekend when the wreck happened."
The InterFraternal Council and Panhellenic send our support and prayers to all of the members of Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity as well as the family and friends of those lost and injured today. We ask that all members of the Drexel Community and Fraternity and Sorority Life, keep them in your prayers and offer as much support as you can in this time of grievance.
The IFC, PHC, Fraternity and Sorority Life Office and Drexel University, all ask that if questioned by the media to direct them to Public Safety who will then escort them to the media relations here at Drexel. The counseling center is available for all students who may have questions or who are struggling with such a tragic event. Counselors are on call and available to all students at Drexel. The number is 215-895-1660 or 215-895-1523.
At this time we are asking for everyone to support AXP and any friends that may be affected. The loss of valued members of our community and distinguished leaders of a fraternity is tough for all of us that knew Ian, John, Andrew, Eric, Kevin, and Adam. Greek life is one of the strongest communities at Drexel University and now is the time to show the unique support and understanding that being a member of Greek Life provides. It's time for Greek Life as a whole to come together to support all those affected by this terrible tragedy. Remain strong and thank you to all who provide support. May God bless all the members of Alpha Chi Rho, and their family and friends and grant them peace of mind and heart in this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Steve Quatrani

Student Life Staff:
I wanted to take the time to thank every one of you for the support you provided last night. Last night made me proud to be a member of the Greek life community. Although it was for an extremely tragic and sad event that I hope never to face again, it was extremely moving to see the amount of support that Greek life provided. I saw members from almost every chapter of the IFC, PHC, and even MGC. Whether or not the people there knew Ian or John they were there to support former members of our community and all those that were closely affected by this tragic accident. Thank you everyone for coming out and supporting our fellow community members.
While last night was great support, the mourning is not over so I ask you all to continue to support the members of AXP and those in our community that were closely affected by this event. Please keep them in your prayers. Please also don't forget the 4 survivors in the accident as they have a long road ahead of them. I ask you to support them as much as possible and to keep them in your prayers as well. I was extremely proud of the support we showed as a community last night and I know you guys will lead the way in continuing support.
I would also like to thank the administration. Specifically Katie Peoples, Natalie Shaak, John Cooke, and Dean Ruth among others who were there from the very beginning to support us and guide us throughout this tough ordeal. There support did not go unnoticed and it was greatly appreciated.
Thank you all for everything you have done so far and everything you will continue to do.
Thanks,
Steve Quatrani
