Sexuality and Gender Equity - SAGE

What is this?

Sexuality and Gender Equality SAGE started training staff and students in November 2010. The Sexuality and Gender Equality (SAGE) committee, comprised of Student Life staff, members of FUSE (Foundation of Undergraduates for Sexual Equality) , and colleagues from across the University has developed comprehensive training to promote understanding, awareness and competencies related to gender and sexual identity. The result of their work was a three goal Sexuality and Gender Equality (SAGE) program that launched in November 2010.

The goals of each of the training sessions are:

  1. Awareness
    • Understand the history and context of LGBTQ rights movements and associated current  
  2. Events and issues
    • Understand how individuals’ gender and sexual identity places them at risk for marginalization and discrimination (through history and in the current context)
    • Understand sex, gender and sexual orientation
    • Be able to use sexuality and gender language respectfully
    • Be able to articulate personal values and identity as a result of reflection

Becoming an active Ally

  • Be aware of University and community resources and be able to make appropriate  referrals.
  • Be able to address inequitable treatment when it occurs
  • Know how to advocate for sexuality and gender equality
  • Be able to create a safe, welcoming environment for students, faculty and staff
