Individual Counseling

The most widely-utilized service at the Counseling Center is individual counseling. If you are a full-time student, you can meet one-on-one with a professional staff member to explore your concerns, to increase an understanding of yourself and others, and/or to learn how to implement solutions to a problem.

The Counseling Center has established session limits to counseling. Typically students will meet with a counselor for a maximum of 15 sessions per academic year. Students who need more intense or longer-term treatment within an academic year may be referred to community resources. Each individual session lasts approximately 50 minutes, and you will usually meet with your counselor once per week, although based on your needs you may meet less frequently.

Students seek individual counseling for a variety of reasons. You may be experiencing difficulty because of a recent event or ongoing stressor. You may also have concerns from your distant past that continue to affect your life. Or you may be seeking to prevent future problems or engage in self-discovery. Whatever your needs, we are here to provide you with the caring, professional support you need to accomplish your goals.
