Footprints of Peace

This celebration hosted by Sonia Sanchez, is a multigenerational call for and celebration of peace in conjunction with Peace Day Philly. The celebrity lineup for the day includes actor/jazz vocalist TC Carson, Black Ice, Jessica Care Moore and more.

Feria del Barrio

The Feria Del Barrio festival is a great way to squeeze in just a bit more summer before the term starts. It is a large-scale block party celebrating the best of Latin culture. This includes authentic food, music and arts. There will also be traditional Latin bands playing throughout the day so be prepared to do a little dancing!

Kick off the term with a photo scavenger hunt! The concept is easy: Simply register a team (up to 6 students) by emailing your (a) team name, (b) team members’ name(s), (c) team members’ Drexel email and (d) t-shirt sizes to duophotoclub@drexel.edu. You can register your team anytime during Welcome Back Week. After your team is officially registered, you will receive the scavenger hunt list, a link to where your team will upload your photos and further instructions. Each item on the list is given a point value. The team with the most points wins an awesome gift basket filled with back-to-school goodies and Drexel swag.

Couch to 5k

This program twill help students train to run a 5k, no matter what your current exercise habits are. It will meet every Wednesday leading up to the City Six 5k at 6 p.m. in the recreation center lobby. During each session a fitness professional will go over your week’s workouts with you and discuss any potential barriers you might face. The second half of each session will consists of a group workout following the couch to 5k training plan for that day.

Hidden Gems of University City

Drexel Commuter Assistants will lead you on a walking tour of the University City neighborhood pointing out key locations frequented by students and some “hidden gems” that are the place to be in the UC neighborhood. Cheer on the Philadelphia Phillies as they take on the Atlanta Braves, see Mario dance with the Phanatic and watch a new Drexel Dragon throw out the first pitch. Get decked out in your Drexel best to rep the Dragons at the park. Game starts at 7:05 p.m. but get there early to enjoy the pregame festivities.

Tickets are $20 each and include two SEPTA tokens for transportation to and from Citizens Bank Park. Tri This! Super-Sprint Student Triathlon

What is a super sprint triathlon? A 200-yard pool swim, 6 mile bike ride and 1.5 mile run. This race is open to current Drexel students. No prior experience required - this race is open to everyone, from competitive athletes (sign up in the Club Sports division) to those of us who exercise recreationally. Student Registration is available at goo.gl/mzFawC. Doesn't matter your fitness level, just give it a tri! Space is limited to the first 150 entrants. All racers will receive a race t-shirt, water bottle, swim cap and race bib. Awards will be given to the three fastest men and women of each age group.
