Race Street Residencies
Welcome to Race Street Residences!
I am Andrew Fuller, the Resident Director (RD) for Race Street Residences and Van Rensselaer Hall (or “Van R.”) I am excited to be in my first year working at Drexel and living in Philadelphia. Prior to working at Drexel, I was an RD for 3 years in upstate New York. I grew up in Missouri, and also went to college there. As the RD, I work closely with the Resident Assistants (RAs) and Residential Desk Coordinators (RDCs) to ensure that Race is a great and safe home away from home. We will be answering questions, putting on events, and challenging you to make the most of your Drexel experience. We hope that you will love living in Race, have fun, and learn a thing or two!
As an RD for two buildings, I have an office in both Race and Van R and will spend a couple days a week in each office. Look for the signs outside of my office to see which days I will be in my office (behind the front desk) – and don’t hesitate to find me in Van R if those days are better for you.
There are a variety of ways to get involved with the community in Race. Our RAs and RDCs will be hosting several events, we will have a community service project each term, and sometimes we will have joint events with Van R! (Since I am the RD at both places – consider yourselves friendly neighbors!) You can join Hall Council and take an active role in putting on events and advocating for resident needs. Just speak to your RA and they can get you in touch with the Council reps! You can also become a Student Desk Assistant by talking to one of the RDCs and filling out an application.
Some interesting information about Race Street Residences:
Completed in 2007, Race is a suite style building and home to 486 first year students. It’s great to be in suites where there is more privacy, but we encourage the residents to keep their doors open when they’re home to get to know everyone on their floor. A great feature about Race is the amount of common area available – each floor has a large common kitchen, a small reading lounge, and a TV lounge. Additionally, the second floor has a fitness center and the first floor has a multipurpose room. These are great places to study, take in great views of the city, and spend time with your Race friends!
