Welcome to North Hall!
My name is MacKenzie Lovell and I am the RD for North. I supervise the resident assistants (RAs) and the residential desk coordinators (RDCs). The RAs are your fellow classmates who plan events, act as a resource for a variety of information, support you in any questions you have (about maintenance issues, roommate concerns, etc.) and are just helpful people to get to know. The RDCs are knowledgeable full time staff who work and staff the front desk and can help you with questions about the building, maintenance requests, mail and other issues that may arise. I am excited to be working in North this year, especially with the implementation of Creating Opportunities for Residential Engagement (C.O.R.E.). This program will help engage our Upperclassmen residents in the four core values of Residential Living—Community, Learning, Citizenship, and Inclusion. This new initiative means that living in North this year will be a new and different experience. I hope you’re as excited as I am!
This is my first year at Drexel, but I have been living, working, and going to school in Philadelphia since 2005. I received my undergraduate degree from Saint Joseph’s University, and recently completed my Master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania. I am a die-hard Phillies fan, and love to go for runs around the art museum. My dog, Fred, and I are really enjoying our time together in University City.
Space in North
We have several large spaces within North (a game room, a large multipurpose room and a small multipurpose room) but we also have limited common area space on each floor. So while you can find some useful spaces within the hall for studying or meeting with a group, it may not be on your floor. All spaces are able to be reserved in North, or you can wander in and use them if there isn’t an event schedule for the space. Do know that there is a kitchen on each floor—in fact there is one kitchen per wing. Each suite does have their own common area or living room and kitchenette with counter area, some cabinet storage and a refrigerator.
Getting Involved in North
To get involved in North, you can talk with your RA! You can either join C.O.R.E. (and I really hope you will) or find ways to take part in hall wide initiatives that we host every term. Have an idea for a program? Please feel free to contact me if you would like to do more within the hall. If you are interested in working at the desk, you are more than welcome to contact our morning RDC Wayne Underkoffler at firstname.lastname@example.org or stop by the front desk to ask for a desk worker application.
