Calhoun

Welcome to CalhounĀ Hall!

Welcome to Calhoun Hall! My name is Ashley Jones and I’m the Resident Director.

Much like the first year students in our building, I’m brand new to our hall. Having recently moved from Virginia, I’m spending most of my time learning about all the great things the city has to offer! Having worked as an intern at Drexel in the summer of 2011, I realized that not only was this a university that provided tons of opportunities, but also a friendly, academically charged, welcoming place for all students. I was eager to return to Drexel as a full time employee and am excited to put my graduate degree of College Student Personnel Administration to use! I’m more specifically looking forward to working in the Calhoun residential community. My office is located just past the front desk so feel free to stop by at any time.

Calhoun is a great traditional hall style residence hall. You can walk down the hall and see your neighbors, which is a great way to create your own community! Calhoun also resembles an arms wide open look, with our arch shape, what can be more welcoming than that! We truly are an example of the saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” While Calhoun is one of the oldest buildings on campus, it also offers one of the best communities. The arch shape of the building allows everyone on the floor to easily interact with one another and build connections in a way that is difficult to find in other buildings. Your first year experience will be enriched by the events, conversations, and interactions you will have with students from all walks of life.

Two Resident Assistants (RAs) live on each floor and are there to help you navigate your first year at Drexel.

The Calhoun staff plans hundreds of events and leadership opportunities to help you meet other people and support you in your academic and student involvement goals. A few examples of these are the Hall Council t-shirt design competition, hall-wide Thanksgiving dinner, floor-decorating competitions, trips to explore the city, intramural sports, student employment at the front desk, study groups, and a variety of other opportunities tailored to your specific interests. Residential Desk Coordinators (RDCs) manage the front desk and are there to make sure your living experience is as comfortable as possible. Overall, Calhoun is a place where you can feel comfortable, meet new people, and establish yourself as a true Drexel student.

If you’re looking to get involved in Calhoun, strongly consider running for our Hall Council! There are number of open positions and no experience in previous leadership roles is required! If you have any questions feel free to email Ashley Jones at aaj47@drexel.edu or call 215.571.3070. Our Resident Desk Coordinators, as well as Desk Assistants, are also available to answer your questions. We are excited to get to know you!
