Student Affairs

November 30, 2012

Over the past several years, Drexel University has seen tremendous growth in its student body and campus footprint. As the university moves towards achieving the goals and objectives outlined in its Strategic Plan, Student Affairs continues to play an integral role in ensuring the successful learning and development of every Drexel student. It is our work that lays the foundation for integrating Drexel students into all elements of the campus community. This is especially critical in a time when the institution looks to break down walls and barriers between campus partners and offices, in an effort to truly create one university.

As Drexel has evolved, all offices within Student Affairs have concurrently evolved to meet the changing needs of our students and campus. Our work has moved beyond the standard definition of success for Student Affairs, which is to ensure a quality out-of-classroom experience for all Drexel students. On the contrary, Student Affairs has been instrumental in engaging students in all aspects of their Drexel experience, in and out of the classroom. I am proud of the fact that all of us continue to look for success not through the marker of programs and opportunities for our students, but through the lens of if these programs and opportunities are providing true educational and developmental support for our students, which leads to a greater connection for the entire Drexel campus community. Our work transcends the co-curricular experience and integrates itself into all affairs of the Drexel community, ensuring the retention and achievement of the entire Drexel student body.

With this in mind, I am proud to announce that our offices will now join together under the banner of Student Affairs. This change will represent the positive work that all of us have already done in ensuring that we are meeting the educational and developmental needs of our students, while successfully integrating our work into the larger objectives of the entire institution. I look forward to seeing all of your innovative work over the next several years. And I am extremely proud to represent all of you as the Dean of Students and leader of Student Affairs at Drexel University.

Sincerely,

David A. Ruth, Ph.D.
Dean of Students
