Create an Innovation Nexus: Progress

July 1, 2013 Update

The first year of Strategic Plan implementation saw Drexel begin to systematically unlock its power to address global challenges and spark growth and development.

University Research Computing Facility

A board of governance was established in January to oversee creation of a research computing cluster at Drexel. The board issued a request for proposals resulting in the acquisition of the “Mario cluster,” Drexel’s first high-performance computing system dedicated for shared use. The Mario cluster will support computational research in materials science and engineering, biocomputing and bioinformatics, drug discovery applications and more.

Measuring Strategic Investments

A subcommittee of Task Force 4 was convened to prepare metrics and milestones for the University’s strategic investments in computing and information, sustainability (including energy and environmental science, engineering and public policy) and the health sciences. The subcommittee is preparing a comprehensive set of strategies that will integrate Drexel’s ongoing and planned investments in the ExcITe Center (computing and information), the Energy Institute (sustainability) and the Clinical and Translational Research Institute (health sciences).
