Description: The student will participate in a research project within and NIH funded lab that studies the control of cellular proliferation. A work-study student would work as a lab assistant to perform essential functions to the day-to-day lab operation and assist the senior students and fellows. Responsibilities inc.: prep of solutions, prep of bacterial cultures, prep of and sterilization of glassware, reagents and supplies. There are 2 major projects in the lab:
the modulation of the activity of factors that regulate gene expression (transcription factors) that are either increased or decreased when cells are induced to proliferate (e.g. normal development, wound repair, cancer) and

The major project in the laboratory is to characterize the functional significance of Sp1 phosphorylation in the cellular response to DNA damage, including effects on DNA repair, apoptosis, chromatin structure. Experimental approaches include: protein isolation, phosphorylation mapping, identification of interacting proteins, confocal microscopy, cloning and mutagenesis.

COAS chemistry: work study research assistant

CoAS: Mathematics: Undergraduate Researcher
Description: Students will participate in a project geared towards the development and expansion of a suite of MATLAB routines for the analysis and processing of meshes in 2D and 3D space; this suite will be designed to include functionalities such as boundary extraction, mesh retessellation, mesh manipulation etc., based on the principles of discrete differential geometry. In addition, students will also use the above mentioned packaged to analyze the behavior of fluid films under the influence of such forces as tension and gravity. Description: This position will be focused on assisting the STEM Coordinator plan and execute successful campus visits for middle and high school students from schools around the Philadelphia area. When a campus visit is scheduled, your main responsibly will be to give 1hr tours and speak knowledgeably about CoE departments and programs. A secondary component of this position will be to improve communication among all CoE departments by collecting information about the types of talks and demonstrations that each department offers to visitors. In addition you may be involved researching STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) outreach programs at other colleges.
Qualifications: Availability in morning and/or early afternoon is MANDATORY. CoE student involved and well connected around the college is strongly preferred. Good people skills and ability to talk to a large group is important. Interest and experience is research is very helpful.

Description: The Lab Assistant II will be required to work under direct supervision of Principal Investigator, in a laboratory that is currently developing DNA vaccine platforms against infectious disease pathogens. Job duties will include a wide array of activities including basic cell culture, performance of molecular biology research experiments using established protocols, and testing vaccine immunogenicity through the measurement of cellular and humoral immune responses using flow cytometry, ELISpot, and ELISA. Description: The Engineering Learning Community (ELC) program seeks two enthusiastic tutors to work with approximately 40 Engineering students in Myers Hall. Applicants should be comfortable tutoring the following courses: MATH 110, MATH 121, MATH 122, MATH 200, Chemistry 101, Chemistry 102, PHYS 101, and PHYS 102. The ideal candidate would also be comfortable tutoring linear algebra (ENGR 231) and differential equations (ENGR 232). The tutor must be available at least one evening per week for two hour study sessions. Additional hours per week will vary depending on weekly ELC activities. The tutor will also meet with the group more frequently in preparation for major examinations. Compensation for this position will include paid tutor training.

Description: The survey taker will join a team that is collecting data on users of the Hagerty Library. Surveys will take place in Hagerty and on other parts of the Drexel campus. Some surveys will involve face-to-face questions, and others will involve observing and counting students.

The device uses thermocyclers to change the temperature of a surface so that the fruit flies move in a specific pattern (to the cool surface). Urban Sustainabilty Planning Initiative: Fresh Food Hub assistant
Description: This work-study will help staff the Lancaster Avenue Fresh Food Hub slated to open in April 2012. The Fresh Food Hub is a program Drexel is undertaking with Greensgrow Farms and Preston's Paradise, two urban farming and CSA organizations. The Food Hub's mission is to improve access to fresh and healthy foods both on the Drexel campus and in the Powelton and Mantua nieghborhoods. The Food Hub is a truck distributing both CSA shares to the Drexel community and selling fresh food and staples to both Drexel students, staff, and faculty as well as neighborhood residents using the Lancaster Avenue retail corridor. The work-study student will assist with selling and distributing food and with outreach programming for the food hub. The location for this job will be at the truck locations on the Lancaster Avenue retail corridor near the Drexel campus and will be supervised by staff in the Urban Sustainability Planning Initiative.
Qualifications: Applicants to this position should have a demonstrated interest in food, nutrition, public health, and/or agriculture issues. Some retail experience is a plus, and reliability and comfort working with food retail customers is a must.

Westphal - Fashion: Historic Costume Collection Work-Study Assistant
Description: The Drexel Historic Costume Collection (DHCC) is an educational resource housing over two hundred years of historic costume and accessories; it is utilized primarily by Fashion Design and Design & Merchandising programs in Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design (AWCoMAD), but is open the entire university and the general public.
Work-study (WS) students in the DHCC will assist the Collections Technician (CT), Graduate Assistant (GA), and Curator with daily operations and special exhibitions. Normal activities include assisting with cataloging, receiving new garment donations, tours, cleaning and organizing and, if the WC has the appropriate skills, sewing custom storage items. During special exhibitions WS will help with preparing dress forms, packing, labeling, installing/deinstalling exhibitions.
Qualifications: WS must have computer skills (i.e. Windows XP, Microsoft Word) typing, organizational skills, and an interest in historic costume and accessories. Knowledge of Photoshop a plus. Description: Assist the Design & Imaging Studios in maintain the 27 computers labs in four different buildings of Westphal College; both MACs and PCs. Women's Health Education Program : Women's Health Research Intern
Description: This job entails vast learning opportunities through various modalities employed by the Womenâ?Ts Health Education Program. The student will have a chance to work on the ASIST 2010 grant. The purpose of the grant is to improve health outcomes in Philadelphia based upon Healthy People 2010 objectives using a womenâ?Ts health and gender focused approach. The student intern will participate in the following activities:
- Assist with coordination of grant activities and program logistics
- Assist with the development of resource materials for grant project
- Assist with literature reviews on health indicators, targets and disease focus area of grant.
- Assist with data collection, entry, management and program implementation
Students interested in community participatory research preferred.
Qualifications: Proficient with Microsoft Software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access. Strong interest in research, gender studies and women's health issues as well as community participatory research. Organizational skills required.
