B.S./M.S. with a Major in Education
Students may pursue their undergraduate degree and initial teacher certification as an Education major and their graduate degree in one of the areas listed under "Cert and MS Options" on the left-side menu bar. Highly qualified students are simultaneously enrolled in both the School of Education and the Pennoni Honors College.
Beginning in their freshman year, students are paired with a School of Education faculty member and immersed in undergraduate research. Graduate course work in a School of Education M.S. degree program begin in the students' junior year while simultaneously continuing to pursue their bachelor’s degree requirements.
The undergraduate curricula for the stand alone B.S. in Education program and the B.S. portion of the B.S./M.S. program are the same for students pursuing their B.S. in Education. Specific course work required in each program by teacher certification area are provided in Drexel's online University catalog.
The graduate component of the B.S./M.S. program is provided in a blended format where the majority of course work is offered online and supplemented with classroom-based and work-based field experiences/graduate internships.
Students transferring into the School of Education from another Drexel University program or from another college or university can select between the B.S. in Education and the B.S./M.S. program.
Co-op for B.S. in Education Students
A six-month co-op in an industry/business related to each student's primary area of teacher certification is a program requirement in the B.S./M.S. program for students who pursue the B.S. in Education degree. For example, a student seeking certification in chemistry might co-op in the chemical industry. The co-op occurs during the fall and winter of a student's sophomore years. More information is available by clicking on the Co-operative Education link in the menu.
