As Cherice Barron planned to continue her education, Drexel’s reputation ultimately was the deciding factor. The University’s dedication to rigorous, leading-edge academics was one of the reasons Barron decided to enroll.
“I love being part of such a commitment to excellence,” Barron says.
Barron says through her studies, she gained an in-depth knowledge of the special education process, and also earned ESL certification. Sharing with her professors and peers helped deepen Barron’s understanding of her studies, and helped her garner knowledge that she can apply in her classroom.
“I had a wonderful time interacting with my classmates, and my professors pushed me to grow professionally and think critically,” Barron says.
Barron is a teacher in the School District of Philadelphia, but her school was one of 23 in the city that were recently shuttered due to budget cuts. Barron is now seeking placement at another school, and says that the prestige of her Drexel degree helps her resume get noticed.
With her degree, Barron plans to continue teaching in Philadelphia and eventually pursue a doctoral degree in education. Her ultimate goal is to develop curricula and direct educational programs.
“I am a Nittany Lion, a Penn Quaker, and now a Drexel Dragon,” Barron says. “My time at Drexel by far has been the most satisfying university experience of my career.”
