Career and Educational Counseling

In order to assist students with selection of majors and setting appropriate educational and career goals, the Steinbright Career Development Center (SCDC) offers students individual career counseling appointments. As part of the career counseling process, career assessments -- including personality and interest inventories -- are also available. The purpose of the assessments and subsequent interpretation is to help students clarify their interests as they relate to major and career choice, identify their motivators and preferences in order to make a better match between personality and work setting, and understand how certain personality factors effect career decision making and selection.

Assessments we offer include the following: Myers-Briggs Type Inventory (MBTI), Strong Interest Inventory, 16PF (Personality Factor) – Personal Career Development Profile, and the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI). Other questionnaires or inventories may also be utilized depending on the individual and pertinent issues relevant to career choice.

To learn more about each of these assessments click here.

Additionally, we offer counseling and guidance regarding career exploration and job search strategies. These topics include: resume writing, interviewing behavior, networking, job/salary negotiation, employability skills, and the world of work.

Individual appointments are available to undergraduate students of all majors and class years, as well as graduate students and alumni. We believe that career development is an individualized, ongoing process that evolves over a lifetime at a pace geared to the person making the journey. The process doesn't have to be difficult or ridden with anxiety.
