SCDC Policies & Procedures: Co-op Applications

Before you can apply to jobs, you must create at least one résumé online through Drexel.SCDConline. Your coordinator will critique your résumé during your Pre-Registration meeting. After accessing Drexel.SCDConline and selecting up to 20 jobs, you determine which version of your résumé to submit. It is recommended that you research the companies by utilizing the Internet (i.e. company web sites) and resources available at the Hagerty Library prior to your interviews. Since Drexel.SCDConline is web-based, Freshmen on Summer vacation can complete their requirements without returning to campus.

To be eligible for Co-op, you must be a full-time Drexel University student in good academic standing, having maintained full-time enrollment in each of the two terms prior to your scheduled Co-op cycle. Freshmen assigned to the Fall/Winter Co-op cycle of their sophomore year are an exception since they are on vacation the summer term prior to their Co-op cycle.

Job Search

Decisions regarding Co-op positions must take into account the long-term objectives of students, employers, and the University. Although the student's interest is paramount, Co-op cannot be completely tailored for each individual. The Steinbright Career Development Center (SCDC) will make every effort to find sufficient opportunities for Co-op experiences for students, but the University cannot make any guarantee of employment. This applies especially to international students, since the U.S. Government security regulations often make employment of non-citizens quite difficult. As a result, each student is strongly encouraged to conduct an independent job search concurrent with their application to positions offered through Drexel.SCDConline.

The employment process is competitive and academic performance, skills, motivation, maturity, attitude, and employment potential will determine whether a student is offered a job. If a student is not employed through the interviewing process, the SCDC will assist the student in a continuing job search. Students are required to maintain weekly contact with their coordinator until a position is secured. Failure to obtain work authorization status or Co-op employment does not entitle a student to a change of status, change of co-op cycle, refund, or adjustment of tuition and fee charges.
