The First Interview
Your on-campus interview, known as the "screening" interview, is the first of two or three meetings you will have with a company (the number of interviews will vary according to the company's processes). On average, "screening" interviews last 30 minutes. In this meeting, the interviewer will determine if you have appropriate skills and abilities to perform required job functions.
Most on-campus interviews take place in the Creese Student Center, Grand Hall or in Bossone. The room is set up with up to 60 interview booths on any given day. There will be a reception table outside the entrance to the Grand Hall staffed by SCDC personnel; you should check in for your interview at this table at least 5-10 minutes prior to your interview. You may then have a seat in the Creese lobby and your interviewer will come out and call your name when ready for your interview. Some companies have "greeters" in the lobby, representatives from the company who may have you fill out a job application, ask some initial basic questions, and so on. Please be aware that if you are speaking with a greeter, your interview has already begun!
There are some interviews that take place at other times of the year, for example the day after a career fair. While it is not common, there are companies that attend the career fair specifically to build an interview schedule for the next day or the following week. Any interviews that take place outside of the regular fall and winter interview periods are typically scheduled by a company or organization directly.
