Accounting
Accounting is a system that produces information for making decisions based on an organization’s productivity, income, and expenditures. Accounting majors learn how to gather, record, analyze, interpret, and communicate information about an individual’s or organization’s financial performance and risks. The LeBow College of Business's accounting coursework is designed to provide basic conceptual accounting and business knowledge for careers in accounting and taxation in a variety of settings. Courses cover accounting, auditing, tax preparation, and related topics.
The greatest range of career opportunities are in public, private and government accounting. Professional accountants are normally certified as public accountants (CPA) or managerial accountants (CMA) after passing professional examinations. In order to be qualified to take the CPA or CMA examinations, candidates must be a resident of the state in which they wish to practice, be employed full-time in that state under a licensed CPA and have graduated with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a college or university within that state.
Students wanting specific information about the concentration are encouraged to stop by the department office in Matheson Hall, Suite 400, call the department at 215-895-2116, or visit their website at http://www.lebow.drexel.edu/Faculty/Departments/Accounting/index.php.
