At Drexel University radiation and radioactive materials may be used for education, scientific research and medical diagnosis. The Radiation Safety Office at Drexel University is responsible for managing the beneficial uses of radiation and radioactive material while protecting our students, patients, visitors, faculty and professional staff from potential hazards as well as assuring compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations.

The Radiation Safety Committee is a peer review committee appointed by the Executive Vice Provost for Research responsible for establishing radiation safety policies and procedures, approving users and uses of sources of radiation, and overseeing the radiation safety program. To discharge its duties, the Committee normally meets once each calendar quarter.

The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) implements the radiation safety program established by the Radiation Safety Committee and assists the Committee discharge its duties. The RSO is the primary resource for all activities related to the use of sources of radiation.

External regulations inform Drexel University's Radiation Safety policies, procedures and activities. Familiarize yourself with the Pennsylvania Code of Regulations and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Standards for Protection Against Radiation.
