Wellness Programs
Wellness programs are an integral part of a healthy lifestyle. The Drexel Recreation Center offers several wellness programs for members designed to maintain overall health and wellness through proper nutrition, fitness, and illness prevention, including:
Nutrition Assessments, Consultations, Lectures, and Demonstrations
- The Health, Fitness, and Wellness team at the Recreation Center partner with the undergraduate and graduate Nutrition Program students to offer nutritional and healthy eating assessments and consultations for members. Nutrition assessments and consultations typically last 30 minutes. Throughout the year, the team also holds lectures and demonstrations on a variety of wellness topics from healthy snacking and portion control to proper hydration and holiday eating.
Blood Pressure Screenings
- The Health, Fitness and Wellness team at the Recreation Center administer blood pressure screenings for members. Blood pressure measures the force of blood that travels through your arteries. In blood pressure screenings, arterial blood pressure is measured with a cuff and stethoscope. Results from a blood pressure screening can be used for risk stratification. High blood pressure often has no warning signs or symptoms. If high blood pressures are found by our team, members will be referred to their physician.
Body Composition Screenings
- Body Composition analysis is an important part of one's overall health and fitness assessment. The term body composition refers to the relative amount or percentage of different types of body tissue (bone, fat, muscle) that are related to health. By assessing body composition with a handheld device, the Health, Fitness, and Wellness team can address issues associated with both low and high levels of body fat.
