Leadership

As the Associate Athletic Director for Recreational Athletics, Dan Simmons is responsible for the organization and direction of the University's recreational athletics program, which includes comprehensive intramural and club sports programs, group exercise and fitness programs, informal recreation, aquatics, indoor climbing and outdoor pursuits. Additionally, he oversees the management for all recreational facilities and services for Drexel students and the overall campus community, including the Buckley Recreational Facilities, Daskalakis Athletic Center, Tennis Courts and the Drexel Recreation Center. Simmons played an instrumental role in the planning, design and construction of Drexel’s 18,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art Recreation Center that opened in February 2010.

He is an active member of the "Philadelphia City 6 Extramural Classic", an association of the recreation directors of Philadelphia's six Division I schools and the association organizes five extramural opportunities per year for undergraduate students. Simmons is also an active member of the National-Intramural Recreational Sports Association. He currently serves as the sport administrator for the Drexel varsity men’s and women’s crew program.

Prior to his tenure at Drexel, Simmons served an assistant athletic director at Philadelphia College of Textile and Science. A 1992 graduate of Villanova University, Simmons holds a degree in Business Administration. He received a master’s degree in Sport Administration from Temple University in 1995.
