How does Drexel Guardian increase safety?
Drexel Guardian transforms your mobile phone into a personal emergency communication device. When you call Drexel Police from your registered phone, the software tells the dispatcher who you are and potentially where you’re located. Dispatchers can also see a profile containing critical response details such as a photo and vital statistics that help them respond immediately to your emergency. In addition, a “timer mode” allows you to activate a virtual escort when you cross campus.
It is important to note that no information about you is available to be viewed until you have activated Drexel Guardian, either by calling the immediate activation line or by having your timer expire.
Who is eligible for Drexel Guardian?
The service is free, completely voluntary, easy to use, and available to any student, faculty, or staff member of Drexel University or Drexel University College of Medicine who chooses to register.

Why do I need a personal profile?
With Drexel Guardian you can build a unique personal profile that instantly provides Drexel Public Safety dispatchers with critical information when you call them from your registered phone number. All the information you provide is 100% optional and is seen only by highly trained dispatchers when you call 267-298-1442 for assistance. The information will help dispatchers locate you and respond quickly to your emergency.
How do I activate Drexel Guardian?
Once you have registered, you can use speed dial on your phone to call 267-298-1442 and send critical profile information and trigger an immediate Drexel Public Safety response. The software pulls information that the University already has on file, as well as notes you’ve provided on your profile, and combines it with location information directly from your mobile carrier.
If I switch my cell phone number and provider will I need to register my information again?
If you change your cell phone number, you should log into your Drexel Guardian account and update your profile with your new mobile number. You will not be asked to create a new profile, however this is the perfect time to review your existing profile and confirm the remainder of the information is up to date.
If I am inactive from Drexel for personal reasons or leave school for a semester or any length of time, will my personal profile information still be available and will I be able to use the Drexel Guardian service?
No, in the event that you leave Drexel for any reason, your personal profile and account information will be removed from the system. Upon your return you will need to register your personal profile and mobile phone information in the Drexel Guardian account.
If I am a faculty or staff member and my family members also have Drexel I.D. numbers, can they register for Drexel Guardian?
No, at this time the system is in place for faculty, professional staff, and students. However, please remember that ANYONE can always call Drexel Communications at 215-895-2222 for assistance or 215-895-2822 to request a Walking Escort.
Is Drexel Guardian always tracking me?
No, your privacy is of utmost importance. You can only be located if an alarm timer expires or if you call 267-298-1442 on your registered mobile phone for immediate assistance.
Can Public Safety track me whenever they want?
No, Public Safety will only be able to obtain your information if an alarm timer expires or when calling for immediate assistance to 267-298-1442 on your registered mobile phone.
Will Drexel Guardian let other people, like my family or friends, track me?
No, never. Only Public Safety will have access to your information, and only when you activate the system.
What can I do if someone forces me to turn off Drexel Guardian?
Drexel Guardian includes a false deactivation code to alert DPS, which is one number higher than your PIN. For example, if your PIN is 1234, you may enter 1235. Drexel Guardian will appear to turn off normally, but Public Safety will be alerted.
How will Drexel Guardian help police locate me?
If you need immediate assistance but are unable to give your location, Drexel Guardian helps Drexel Police and emergency responders locate you through GPS tracking. Your mobile carrier (Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.) and the quality of your mobile phone will determine the accuracy of the location information provided to Public Safety. All of this information, including location, is only provided to the Public Safety Communications Center when you actively signal for help by calling 267-298-1442.
What if my carrier or mobile phone cannot provide Drexel Guardian with location information? Can I still use Drexel Guardian?
Drexel Guardian works with any mobile phone, on practically any carrier. If Drexel Guardian cannot determine your phone's location, all other profile information will be made available to Public Safety when you use Drexel Guardian.
How does the Guardian timer/virtual campus escort feature work?
When you’re crossing campus, you can set a Guardian timer on your phone by calling 267-298-3008, leaving information about where you are going, who you are with, and what you are wearing, which will help a great deal in responding in the event you need assistance. When you arrive at your destination safely, you must deactivate the timer, and Drexel Public Safety will never know you used the service. But if something should happen to you on the way, dispatchers will know something is wrong once your timer expires, and they will check in on you to make sure you’re OK.
This service is not a replacement for Drexel’s 24/7 Walking Escorts; you are still encouraged to call 215-895-2822 to request a Walking Escort when crossing campus.
