Irene Opendak leads the Drexel University Emergency Preparedness Program, also known as DrexelReady.
In 2013, the DrexelReady program was nominated and selected among only six schools from a national pool as a participant for the Campus Resilience Pilot program sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security, FEMA and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The Drexel Emergency Preparedness Program is becoming a benchmark in the creation of a national standard for other schools.
Irene’s experience combines 20 years of service at Drexel University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Bryn Mawr College. Her experience with emergency management has began in 1986 with the Chernobyl nuclear reactor catastrophe.
In addition to her Master’s degree in Management of Information Science, she is certified by Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII) and advises multiple national and international constituencies in the areas of emergency preparedness and business continuity.
Ms. Opendak has received commendations by several professional authorities in the field, honorable recognition in the Marquis Who’s Who in America 2004, 58th edition and became a Honoree for the Disaster Recovery International 2013 Award of Excellence as ”Industry Leader of the Year”.
