Elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2008, Brendan F. Boyle represents Pennsylvania’s 170th legislative district. In 2010, Rep. Boyle was re-elected with 64% of the vote. In that same election, his brother, Kevin, was also elected to the state House from the neighboring 172nd district. They are the only brothers serving together in the state House.
The son of an Irish immigrant, Brendan Boyle was born and raised in the city of Philadelphia. The first in his family to attend college, he went to the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in government and completed the Hesburgh Program in Public Service. While at Notre Dame, he worked as a sportscaster, announcing Notre Dame football and basketball games on 640 WVFI-AM in South Bend, Ind.
Brendan later attended graduate school at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. He graduated from Harvard in 2005, earning a master’s degree in public policy.
Prior to his election to the House, Brendan worked in the private sector. He was a management consultant to various agencies within the U.S. Department of Defense, including Naval Sea Systems Command and the Military Sealift Command.
In July 2011, Brendan was appointed chairman of the House Democratic Campaign Committee. He is also an adjunct professor of public policy at Drexel University.
