Master of Science in Public Policy (MSPP)
Distinctive Elements
Drexel’s MSPP is similar in its core curriculum to a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and a Master of Public Policy (MPP) program, yet innovative and distinct in at least two key respects:
-
A focus on case study research: The MSPP curriculum reinforces coursework with a research course (PLCY501) as well as a series of eight accompanying 1-credit, online Case Study Research sections (PLCY 502). In PLCY 501 students are introduced to case study methodology and practice, and required to choose a specific case that they will work on for the duration of the program. In each subsequent Case Study Research course, students continue to contribute research and writing on their case studies. Thus by the end of the eight sections of PLCY 502, students have produced a polished, in-depth analysis of a specific case that they can use to demonstrate expertise in a given policy area.
-
Distinct tracks of specialization. The MSPP degree consists of nine required core courses, nine online Case Study Research sections, and three elective courses. With the approval and support of the CPP director, students can craft a specialized course of study with their three electives, or they can take courses in one of four tracks:
- Environmental Policy
- Science and Technology Policy
- Urban Systems Management
- Education Policy
