Academics

Academic Calendar

Drexel University has an academic calendar based on the quarter system with 4 quarters (“terms”) per year: Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer. For details about the start and finish of each term, review Drexel’s academic calendar by selecting the link under Quarter Programs.

If you plan on living in the residence halls, before you book your plane ticket, please make sure that you understand not only our academic calendar, but also when the residence halls open and close.

Courses

Inbound exchange students must take between a minimum of 12 credits and maximum of 20 credits per term. Most Drexel students take about 16 credits, 4-5 courses. We suggest that you select 10 courses that they would like to take for each term scheduled at Drexel. That way you will not be disappointed if a particular class is cancelled or full.

Please note: you must select undergraduate course descriptions for Quarter term courses.

Drexel class schedule
Please note: The schedule of classes is normally posted one term in advance however this is subject to change. Sometimes class meeting times change, sometimes classes are cancelled. You will need to check your class schedule several times before the term begins.

Books

As you may have heard, the cost of text books in the United States is quite high. Many international students are surprised by how much text books cost. You may have to spend as much as $500 for books for one term.

Unlike many other countries, professors in the United States require students to purchase their textbooks. You will not necessarily be able to borrow your textbooks from the library or from other students.
