Provost Fellowships
Funds are again available this coming academic year for the award of a number of Provost Fellowships to incoming students (both US and International) who are seeking to begin a doctoral program or an interim master's program (that which is a required precursor to a regular doctoral program) this Fall. This Provost's Fellowship Program was created three years ago as part of the University's efforts to raise the quality of its research student corps.
Each fellowship recipient will receive a sum of $5000 per year for two years added to whatever stipend is being offered to them by their program. The award funds will be paid annually in 8 equal installments starting in October and continuing to May. The student must be enrolled full-time at all times and will continue receiving the special stipend provided their CGPA is above 3.5. All recipients must submit a proposal for an external fellowship by the end of the first year of the award or soon after in order to continue as fellows. It is expected that the awards will be won in open competition among outstanding candidates. This program will be administered by the Office of Graduate Studies (OGS).
With this announcement, the OGS is also soliciting departmental nominations. Please submit dossiers, each with a letter of recommendation, CV (if available), proposed field of study, undergraduate (and masters) GPA, GRE scores, excerpts of reference letters, and evidence of scholarly/research achievements and extracurricular activities (if any), to Provost's Fellowship Program, Graduate Studies Office, 240 Randell Hall Please use the Provost Fellowship Nomination Form to submit the student’s information. The deadline for completion of any application is March 10, 2008 though the OGS will be making awards on a rolling basis should the dossiers of truly outstanding applicants come to hand early and action must be taken immediately in order to have an impact on the decision-making process for those deemed most qualified. It is anticipated that the final group of successful recipients will be identified by March 24, 2008.
