Graduating Masters Students Degree Clearing Process

  1. Students should discuss graduation intent with their graduate advisor to review coursework and ensure that all degree requirements are being met prior to the term they hope to graduate. (Students with thesis requirement see additional details below.)
  2. All graduating students should file an Application for Degree by the appropriate deadline for the term that they intend to graduate.
  3. Review the university's Requirements for Graduation to make sure you are in full compliance.
  4. At the end of the term, the department will review your file and notify the registrar whether or not your degree requirements have been met for academic degree clearance. Degrees are awarded at the end of each term but commencement exercises are held once a year in June.

Additional Steps for Masters Students with Thesis

  1. Work with your supervising professor to make arrangements to defend your thesis and to complete any required departmental forms prior to your thesis defense.
  2. You will be required to take two forms with you to your thesis defense:

Thesis Approval Form - signed by all committee members and original is submitted and bound with your thesis to the library.

Completion Form - signed by your supervising professor, department head, library representative, and Graduate Studies Office representative. After all signatures are obtained, this form is returned to your department to your academic clearing representative.

  3. You are required to submit your thesis to the library, which has specific preparation requirments.
