College of Arts and Sciences

Assistantships

Teaching, graduate, and research assistantships carry stipends that vary by program but are normally valued at $9,000 to $22,000 per academic year. The stipend is in addition to tuition remission for three courses per term. Including the tuition remission, the total value of an assistantship may be in excess of $40,000. Teaching assistants are expected to spend 20 hours per week in instructional duties. Research and graduate assistants spend 20 hours per week working under the direction of a faculty member. Dean's Doctoral Award

Highly qualified doctoral students may be awarded a Dean's Doctoral Award, currently valued at $5,000 per year, to support research efforts during their first two years at Drexel. This award is in addition to any other assistantship that may be awarded through the program.

School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems

Assistantships

Several assistantships are available each term that require approximately 20 hours per week helping with course teaching or research work. For a full TA/RA, the awards provide tuition remission for up to nine credits per term and a stipend ranging from $1,200 to $1,500 per month.

Calhoun Fellowships

Each academic year, several exceptional, first-term full-time students, who have demonstrated excellence in their academic work and who are perceived as having potential to accomplish biomedical research, are awarded Calhoun Fellowships. These funds provide full-tuition remission (nine credits per term) and a monthly stipend ranging from $1,400 to $2,000 per month. The Drexel University graduate application must be received by February 1 to be considered for the following fall.

LeBow College of Business

Assistantships

There are a limited number of graduate assistantships available in the full-time MBA, MS, and PhD programs. Teaching, administrative, and research assistantships are awarded by the faculty after a student enrolls in LeBow College. Stipends vary by program, but range between $3,300 and $7,560 per three-term contract. The stipend is in addition to tuition remission, which pays for three courses a term for the fall, winter, and spring quarters. Including the tuition remission, the total value of a teaching assistantship can be in excess of $18,000 per academic year. Graduate assistants work 20 hours a week, either teaching classes or conducting research under the direction of a faculty member.

Financial Aid for One-Year MBA Students

All applicants to the One-Year MBA are automatically considered for merit scholarships that range from $1,000 to full tuition. Selection criteria include academic, professional, and personal achievements; potential for excellence in a management career as demonstrated by length and quality of post-baccalaureate work experience; GPA; GMAT scores; and an interview with the admission committee. Those interested in merit scholarships are encouraged to apply early in the application process as awards are made on a rolling basis. Applicants applying after the application deadline for U.S. and non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible for merit scholarships.

Students who know that the One-Year MBA is their program of interest are encouraged to apply early and meet one of two early decision deadlines: October 1 or December 1. Students who are offered admission by these dates and have also submitted their Intent to Enroll forms by November 1 or January 1, respectively, will receive Alumni Awards in the amount of $5,000 or $3,000, respectively. These awards are made possible through the generosity of LeBow College of Business alumni.

Outstanding applicants currently residing in the continental U.S. will be considered for the prestigious Dean's Scholar Award — the highest honor awarded to One-Year MBA applicants. Fifteen outstanding applicants will be nominated and invited to participate in the One-Year MBA Scholars Day.

Financial Aid for Professional MBA Students

Drexel Dean's Fellowships and the Drexel Alumni-Trustee Endorsement Grant are available for students interested in the full-time Professional MBA. Drexel alumni who are interested in the full-time or part-time Professional MBA are eligible for the Drexel Grad Grant.

School of Education

Teacher's Incentive Grant

The Teacher's Incentive Grant is available to new graduate students enrolled in the MS in Science of Instruction program. Eligible students may receive a 25 percent discount on graduate work.

Noyce Scholarship Program

The Drexel University Noyce Scholarship program is a partnership between the School of Education; the College of Arts and Sciences; the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems; and the School District of Philadelphia. This program is funded by the National Science Foundation. Its objectives are:

• To recruit qualified science, engineering, and mathematics students and professionals dedicated to teaching math or science in the School District of Philadelphia
• To provide strong preparation addressing content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, learner knowledge, and technology integration
• To provide mentoring and induction activities

Individuals selected to participate in this program will become certified teachers of mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry, earth and space science, or general science. Note that an applicant must be a U.S. national, a U.S. citizen, or have permanent resident status.

The Noyce Scholarship program offers two types of scholarships: the Noyce Scholar and Noyce Professional. The Noyce Scholar is an undergraduate with a major in mathematics or an area of science or engineering with an overall GPA of at least 3.0. The scholarship is $10,000 per year for two years.

The Noyce Professional is a graduate student/post-baccalaureate student with a major in mathematics or an area of science or engineering with an overall GPA of at least 3.0. The scholarship is $10,000 for one year.

Accepting the award requires the recipient to commit to teaching in the School District of Philadelphia two years for every $10,000 of award received. If the teaching obligation is not met, the scholarship must be repaid.

To apply, students must complete an application form along with a letter of interest. Faculty must return their completed recommendation forms directly to the School of Education.

Transition to Teaching Grant

The Transition to Teaching program is a collaborative effort between the School District of Philadelphia and Drexel University. Outcomes of this program include:

• A supportive learning environment
• A streamlined program to facilitate a transition from current career into teaching career
• Completion of the requirements for Pennsylvania Instructional I Teaching Certificate
• Fifteen graduate quarter credits, which may be used toward Drexel University's School of Education MS degree, Science of Instruction, or transferred into another institution's master's degree program

College of Engineering

Fellowships and traineeships are provided by several departments in the college. These awards enable students to carry a full load of courses and do not require duties. Tuition costs are covered by the fellowship or traineeship. In addition, you receive a stipend, ranging up to $1,600 per month. Interested applicants should contact their department for more information about these awards.

Research and/or teaching assistantships are also available, enabling a student to carry a half-time course load. Recipients are required to work 20 hours per week, assisting in either teaching or research. (Some appointments require a combination of both.) The awards provide stipends ranging from $11,000 to $25,000, plus remission of tuition and fees for the academic year. Thus, the value of an assistantship may total more than $50,000.

Internal Fellowships and Assistantships

Assistantships in research and teaching are provided to qualified students and typically range from $1,400 to $2,500 per month in stipend and include full-tuition waivers. The College of Information Science and Technology offers many different types of financial assistance each year, including graduate research assistantships, endowed scholarships, dean's and doctoral fellowships, and IST alumni loan funds.

The scholarship section of the IST website contains detailed information on all available aid as well as application instructions and criteria. All eligible students and applicants are encouraged to apply for any award provided they meet the stated criteria and submit the required documentation.

Westphal College of Media Arts & Design

Assistantships

A limited number of graduate assistantships are available, providing tuition remission and a monthly cash stipend. Graduate assistants work 20 hours per week, typically within one of the college's academic departments and under the supervision of the department or program head. College of Medicine's Biomedical Graduate Studies

Doctoral Programs

All students accepted in the PhD program receive:

• Research assistantship ($20,500 per year for academic year 2003 – 2004)
• Supplement of $1,400 per year for health insurance
• Full-tuition scholarship

MD/PhD Program

All students accepted in the MD/PhD program receive:

• Research assistantship ($20,500 per year for academic year 2003 – 2004)
• Supplement of $1,400 per year for health insurance
• Full-tuition scholarship (for medical school and graduate studies)

Master's and Medical Science Programs

For graduate students enrolled in the MS, MLAS, MMS, MBS, IMS, and MSP programs, financial aid may come from outside sources, such as the federal government and private organizations, or from the University itself. Aid may be in the form of loans, grants, scholarships, or part-time employment. University aid is awarded to students based on financial need. Scholarship awards are based on need and academic performance.

College of Nursing and Health Professions

The College of Nursing and Health Professions graduate program offers three types of support to matriculated students:

• Tuition Scholarships (primarily for PhD matriculants)
  Tuition scholarships, offered on a competitive basis as funds become available, are awarded on the basis of academic excellence, financial need, and service to the University or the community at large.
• Teaching Assistantships
• Research Assistantships

Students in the Entry-Level DPT program are also eligible for the Dean's Award.
