Biochemistry & Molecular Biology |
| Description: |
The student will participate in a research project within an NIH funded laboratory that studies the cellular response to DNA damage. A work-study student would work as a laboratory assistant to perform functions essential to the day-to-day laboratory operation to assist senior students and fellows.
Responsibilities include: preparation of solutions, preparation of bacterial cultures, preparation of and sterilization of glassware, reagents and supplies.
The major project in the laboratory is to characterize the functional significance of Sp1 phosphorylation in the cellular response to DNA damage, including effects on DNA repair, apoptosis, chromatin structure. Experimental approaches include: protein isolation, phosphorylation mapping, identification of interacting proteins, confocal microscopy, cloning and mutagenesis. |
