Faculty Portfolio Workshops

Fall 2011 Full-Time Faculty Portfolio Workshop (Application Window Closed)
October 4, 2011 - October 28, 2011
University City Campus

The Provost’s Office and the Drexel Center for Academic Excellence (DCAE) will sponsor a workshop on the creation of faculty portfolios scheduled to run between October 4 and October 28. This workshop will allow participants to work on academic as well as teaching portfolios, depending on which format best fits their individual needs. Academic Portfolios are particularly useful for tenure-track and tenured faculty members, and provide an opportunity to highlight key components of teaching, research, scholarship and service in a cohesive manner while providing an opportunity for reflection on past accomplishments with an eye towards future professional goals. Teaching Portfolios, most suitable for teaching faculty, provide an opportunity to highlight a faculty member’s philosophy, methodology, and major accomplishments regarding the teaching and learning process. Faculty portfolios may also be a useful vehicle for senior faculty who are rethinking career priorities and wish to enhance their teaching skills in furtherance of student learning.

During the workshop, Dr. Teck-Kah Lim, Associate Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Professor of Physics, will instruct faculty on the creation of their portfolios and will be joined by an experienced team of Drexel faculty from various departments and colleges who will serve as mentors. Dr. Lim has been involved in teaching and academic portfolio workshops since their inception at the University and has worked as a member of Dr. Peter Seldin’s “A Team” at other institutions too.

Although the workshop has a span of four weeks, most of the timing is flexible and involves the arrangement of individual meetings with a mentor at a mutually convenient time. The exception to this is a mandatory meeting on Tuesday, October 4, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. Participants are also expected to attend a lunch meeting on Friday, October 21, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM, and a concluding ceremony on Friday, October 28, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
