It is with regret that I inform you that Dr. Lorenzo Narducci, the Francis K. Davis Professor of Physics, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2006.
A member of Drexel's faculty since 1979, Dr. Narducci was a leader in the field of quantum optics, with more than 150 publications in refereed journals to his name as well as a book and several edited volumes. He served on countless committees for the Department of Physics, the College of Engineering and the University, sponsored several Franklin Institute medals, edited Optics Communications and Physical Review A, was a member of the Board of Progress in Optics and served as external examiner on Ph.D. thesis committees worldwide.
Dr. Narducci was a passionate instructor whether he was teaching introductory Physics, undergraduate or graduate Quantum Mechanics or Electricity and Magnetism or a course in laser physics, his true love. His interactions with colleagues and students were always stimulating and characterized by mutual respect. Furthermore, he brought leadership, knowledge and thoughtfulness to curriculum discussions that improved quality and brought innovation to the department's course offerings. He also supervised more than 15 Ph.D. theses at Drexel. Despite illness, Dr. Narducci attended Drexel's 2006 Commencement to proudly hood his most recent Ph.D. graduate.
