Provost Office: Memorandum
To: All Faculty and Staff
From: Office of the Provost
Subject: Dr. Janet Fleetwood Appointed Provost Fellow
Date: 07 October 2005
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Janet Fleetwood as a Provost Fellow for the period of October 1, 2005 to May 31, 2006.
Janet, who is a Professor and Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Family, Community and Preventive Medicine, will be focusing on enhancing faculty diversity in medicine, engineering and science at Drexel. Specifically, she will be looking into the current extent of academic diversity in medicine, engineering, and science, comparing Drexel with national benchmarks and reviewing policies and procedures to identify impediments to diversity.
At the end of her study she will prepare a report that will form the basis of a task force I will appoint later this academic year to make recommendations for enhancing faculty diversity within Drexel.
A philosopher by training, Janet has directed the medical humanities program in the college of medicine for nearly two decades. She received the Trustees' Award for Teaching Excellence in 1995.
Her service activities include chairing the faculty Appointments and Promotions Committee, chairing the Grievance Committee, and serving on the Tenure Committee, Sabbatical Task Force, and Student Admissions committee in the College of Medicine as well as the Drexel University Senate. She is currently serving as a Fellow in the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) program.
