Dear LSAMP Bridge to the Doctorate (BTD) students,
On behalf of the Greater Philadelphia Region Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (Philadelphia AMP), you are cordially invited to attend our 10th Annual Philadelphia AMP Research Symposium and Mentoring Conference on Saturday, October 14, 2006. The Conference will be held at the Sheraton University City Hotel, 36th & Chestnut Streets, Philadelphia, PA 19104. We are expecting approximately 100 undergraduate and graduate students from LSAMP Alliances to attend to conference.
During the Conference, undergraduate students from Philadelphia AMP and other LSAMP Alliances will showcase their research in poster competition sessions, and compete for cash prizes, awards and giveaways, including a laptop computer, flash drives, and graphing calculators. Special professional development activities and an oral research competition will also be available for the BTD participants.
During the oral competition, BTD students will be required to present a 5-7 minute presentation of their project, and address questions during a 2-3 minute question and answer session. Cash prizes for the research competitions will range from $150 - $500. In addition, during our graduate school fair, representatives will be available to provide mentoring and professional/career development for undergraduate and graduate students to transition successfully into graduate and/ or doctoral programs, industry and academe.
All research presenters will need to arrive at the Conference on October 14, 2006 by 8:00 am to complete their registration and orientation. The Conference will begin promptly at 9:00 am. Hence, we strongly encourage out of town participants to make arrangements to arrive on Friday, October 13, 2006. Hotel rooms have been blocked for you to attend the conference at the Sheraton University City Hotel at a special room rate of $179 per room for single, double, or triple occupancy. Please be sure to identity yourself as being a part of the "10th Annual Research Symposium /Mentoring" group when making hotel reservations. Hotel arrangements should be made directly with the hotel by calling 1-877-459-1146 (toll free) by September 29, 2006 to guarantee your room rate. Check-in time is anytime after 3:00 pm.
