Program Information

Bridge to the Doctorate (BTD) is an initiative committed to engaging students from underrepresented populations in graduate studies within the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). This initiative is funded by the National Science Foundation as a supplement to the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation.

The BTD Initiative program provides financial support for participants during the first two (2) years of graduate study. In addition, BTD Program offerings provide enrichment through the provision of academic- and research-mentoring as well as leadership development opportunities that help prepare students to be active members of the scientific community.

Drexel University's Bridge to the Doctorate program also offers fellows the chance to participate in and travel to a variety of workshops and seminars throughout their tenure. Participation in such events helps our Bridge fellows connect to the larger community of academicians and industry professionals. Moreover, our developmental offerings span a wide range of topics that include:

  • Identifying a field of research
  • Writing winning grant proposals
  • Networking effectively
  • Enabling productive advisor-student relationships
  • Goal-setting for a successful post-Ph.D. career

Fellows of the Bridge to the Doctorate initiative are committed, mindful learners who are actively engaged in the process to become leaders within the scientific community at the national and global level.
