Bridge to the Doctorate Retreat

In August 2006, the Greater Philadelphia Region Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation hosted a Retreat for 13 second year Bridge to the Doctorate fellows from Drexel University and 12 first year fellows from Delaware State University.

The goals set forth and achieved through the retreat were as follows:
  • To develop a sense of purposefulness and commitment among Bridge to the Doctorate participants, i.e. to build the mindset necessary for a successful graduate experience
  • To foster community-building among this set of high-potential and high performing scholars
  • To strengthen the relationships between students, faculty and advisors

The three (3) day event featured a series of seminars and workshops which were co-facilitated by academic and industry professionals as well as students. The retreat was comprised of interactive discussions and presentations to help fellows develop an understanding on a variety of topics including:

  • Goal-setting
