Quick-Start Guide to the Fall Placement Examinations

Congratulations on your admission to Drexel University! We couldn't be more excited for your arrival on campus and will strive to make your transition an enjoyable and rewarding one.

In order to ensure that you are placed into courses for which you are well prepared, Drexel's faculty has developed a set of placement examinations. These examinations reflect the proficiency that is expected of students to be ready for the curriculum presented in the various college level Mathematics, Chemistry, and Modern Language courses (for a full description of each examination, click on the subject(s) for more information). A series of fact sheets have been developed for the different examinations to help students better understand the processes and purposes associated with placement.

The Placement examins open on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. The deadline to complete your required exams is Sunday, June 30, 2013.

Please note: if you do not complete your placement examination(s) by the deadline specified, your academic advisor will not have an accurate assessment of your academic preparation and will not be able to create your schedule for the Fall.

We have developed this Quick-Start Guide to ensure that you are able to access your examinations, that you are technically prepared to sit for your examinations and finally to determine which tests you are required to take. You may also take a moment to read the Top Frequently Asked Questions and fact sheets about placement examinations.

Important Resources

Before you begin you may want to check out some important resources that will help you get started with your placement exams.

Step 1: Pick-up Your Drexel Computer Accounts

You will need to have obtained your Drexel computer accounts to take the placement examinations. If you have not already picked up your account, please visit http://drexel.edu/irt/welcome. Once you have your Drexel userid (e.g. - abc12) and password, proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Configure Your Computer

We want to make sure that your computer is configured before you take your placement examinations.

To test your web browser, you must log into https://learning.drexel.edu with your userid and password. After you log in, click on the "Tech Support" link at the top of the screen. Here, under the Browser Test section, you will see a "Test your Browser" button. Click on this button. This test will help to determine if your browser configuration is compatible with the placement examinations.

Step 3: Take Your Placement Examination(s)

Note: Please set aside at least 90 minutes before taking your placement exams. Also, please make sure you have a strong internet connection before starting. Once an exam is accessed, its timer will continue to countdown.

It is our recommendation that students watch the following video tutorial before getting started: Taking Your Placement Exams.

When you are ready to take your examination(s), please visit https://learning.drexel.edu to log into Bb Learn. Once logged-in, in the center column, you will see a channel called "My Courses" – your examinations will be listed in this area. It is important that you take these examinations very seriously.

Students with Disabilities (top)
If you are requesting accommodations for the placement exams (such as extended time) due to a disability, you must register with the Office of Disability Resources (ODR) prior to receiving the testing accommodations. During the registration process, students must provide the necessary medical documentation to ODR and speak with an ODR staff member regarding the requests. Students should plan to register as soon as possible, as the process may take some time. The Office of Disability Resources can be contacted at 215.895.1401 (Phone); 215.895.1402 (Fax); or via e-mail at disability@drexel.edu.

Transfer Students (top)
Transfer students will be contacted by their college/school regarding any placement examination requirement(s).

Students Who Have Completed AP/CLEP Examinations (top)
Those students who have taken AP and/or CLEP examination(s) through ETS are still required to take Drexel's placement examination(s) for scheduling purposes. Once AP/CLEP scores are provided to the University by ETS - often after the scheduling deadline - adjustments to a student's schedule will be made by his or her academic advisor.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you in advance for taking your placement examination(s) on time.
