Society of Physics Students
Welcome to the Drexel University chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS)! SPS is a professional organization which was revived in 2006 through the initiative of Professor Roberto Ramos. It is designed specifically for university students. While many of us are physics majors, we welcome all who are interested in or care to learn more about physics.
The Society of Physics Students is a professional association explicitly designed for students. Membership, through collegiate chapters, is open to anyone interested in physics. The only requirement for membership is that you be interested in physics. Besides physics majors, our members include majors in chemistry, computer science, engineering, geology, mathematics, medicine, and other fields.
What do we do?
Our main goal at DU SPS is the advancement and diffusion of knowledge of physics. We perform outreach activities at local middle and high school students and the general community to promote interest in physics and the sciences. We do this hosting doing physics demonstrations, film showings, and science and career talks. For our own members, we invite speakers to give a talk on their research, host open houses at the on-campus observatory, and trips to physics conferences and seminars.
Apart from academics, like any other student organization at Drexel, we have plenty of social events such as the movie and activity nights, where we kick back and relax and enjoy the company of fellow physics enthusiasts!
When do we meet?
Tuesdays @ 5 PM during even weeks of Winter term in Disque 708
SPS Membership
Anyone from any major or school interested in physics is welcome to join SPS and participate in most of our activities. However, members can also choose to join SPS National, our parent organization which is associated with the professional organization AIP (American Institute of Physics) and Sigma Pi Sigma, the National Physics Honors Society.
Besides the opportunity of being involved with a professional organization, there are several benefits to SPS National membership:

- The SPS Observer Newsletter (quarterly)
- Journal of Undergraduate Research in Physics (online)
- Career Placement Services
- Eligibility for SPS scholarships, internships, research & travel grants, fellowships and other awards
- Free membership with one AIP Member Society for undergraduates only, for up to three years
