Drexel President Papadakis Honored with Community Leadership Award at Italian National Day Celebration

PHILADELPHHIA (June 1, 2002) —Drexel President Constantine Papadakis received the 2002 “Community Leadership Award” from the Alliance of Italian American Associations at a ball commemorating Italian National Day.
Consul General of Italy Dr. Lorenzo Mott hosted the black tie event marking the 56th anniversary of Italian National Day, which marks the rebirth of democracy in Italy following World War II.
Papadakis was honored for his leadership not just as the president of Drexel University, but also for the community involvement role he has taken by sitting on numerous local boards, including the Opera Company of Philadelphia, Greater Philadelphia FIRST and the Philadelphia Stock Exchange.
Although born in Greece, Papadakis is also Italian, as his mother is a native of Padua, Italy. Papadakis speaks Italian fluently. Past winners of the “Community Leadership Award” include KYW-TV’s Pat Ciarrocchi, former Philadelphia School Board president Andrew Farnese, Independence Blue Cross President and CEO Fred DiBona Jr. and Pennsylvania Senator Vincent Fumo. Papadakis is the ninth recipient of the Community Leadership Award.
