How to request a note-taker :
If you are a student registered with the Office of Disability Resources at Drexel University who would like to request a note-taker as an accommodation in one or more classes, please follow the steps below:
- Ensure that "note-taker" is listed as an approved accommodation on your Accommodation Verification Letter (AVL).
If it is not, and you feel that you may qualify for the service please call ODR at 215-895-1401 or e-mail email@example.com and request an appointment.
- Attend at least two (2) class sessions of each course in which you are considering requesting a note-taker. If your class only meets once each week, please attend one (1) class session before requesting a note-taker from ODR.
- Fill out the Note-taker Policy and Request Form and return it to ODR.

- The form can be sent as an e-mail attachment to firstname.lastname@example.org, faxed to 215-895-1402, or mailed/dropped off to 3201 Arch Street, Suite 210, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
ODR Student Responsibilities:
- It is the responsibility of the student to submit all requests in a timely manner. Note-takers are expected to provide notes from the date the original request is made until the end of the term. Like all other accommodations, notes are not provided retroactively.
- Students are encouraged to use other similar accommodations, like receiving PowerPoints in advance of class and recording class lectures, in conjunction with receiving a copy of notes from a note-taker.
- Students who receive a note-taker as an accommodation are expected to use the additional notes in conjunction with their own. All students are still responsible for taking notes during class.
- It is the student's responsibility to inform ODR immediately if their notes are inaccurate, not timely, or if they are no longer required.
The Office of Disability Resources' Process in finding a note-taker:
After receiving a completed Note-taker Policy and Request Form, ODR takes the following steps to assist in finding a note-taker for the student:
- An e-mail is sent to all students in the class requesting a volunteer to provide copies of their notes for a student with a disability. The ODR student receiving the notes is not named in the e-mail. Any interested student volunteers are required to take a brief online training and submit an application to ODR.
- After two (2) business days, if no students have applied, a second e-mail is sent.
- Generally, a volunteer is found during this e-mail process however if not, ODR will reach out to the professor and request that they assist in finding a note-taker.

- I have "Note-taker" on my AVL, what do I need to do to request this service?

- I do not have "Note-taker" on my AVL but I think I may qualify for this as an accommodation, what should I do?
If you feel you may qualify to receive a note-taker but do not have the accommodation currently on your AVL please call ODR at (215)895-1401 and request an appointment to discuss your options.
- Is there a way for me to receive notes anonymously?
Yes, on the Note-taker Request Form select option #2. Your note-taker will then be asked to drop off copies of notes to the Information Desk in the Creese Student Center. When picking up your notes, simply tell the staff at the desk which class you need notes for. You will not have to give any personal information and your identity will not be given to your note-taker.
- My note-taker is not dropping off notes on time, who should I contact to report this?
If your note-taker is not dropping off notes in a timely manner or there is an issue with the notes you receive you must contact ODR right away to report the problem. ODR can be reached via e-mail at email@example.com or phone at (215)895-1401.
- I do not think the notes I am receiving from my note-taker are adequate, who should I contact to report this?
If your you feel there is an issue with the notes you receive you must contact ODR right away to report the problem. ODR can be reached via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone at (215)895-1401.
- ODR has given me the name and e-mail address of my note-taker so that I can contact them to set-up note delivery. What should I say in my e-mail to the note-taker?
In your e-mail to the student note-taker it may be helpful to provide the following information: your name, your e-mail address (if the notes will be sent via e-mail), a meeting location (if the notes will be dropped off in person). You are not required to, and should not, give any personal or disability information.
