Requesting Auxiliary Aids, Accommodations & Services
People with disabilities are responsible for requesting auxiliary aids, accommodations, and services. As part of the interactive process, the Office of Disability Services (ODS) will collaborate with employees and students to discuss the employment and educational environments to minimize the impact of the disability(ies) at Drexel University. All requests for accommodations and services are listed, by the employee or student, on the Intake Form or the Accommodation Request Form.
The preference of a person with a disability’s will be a primary factor in the interactive process of determining auxiliary aids, accommodations, and services at Drexel University. Although the individual’s preferences will be given primary consideration, there may be other accommodations that also result in equal access. The final decision for determining if an accommodation is appropriate and reasonable will be made by ODS.
All requests for accommodations require a 72-hour advance notice. ODS will make every effort to secure accommodations, if supported by the documentation and found to be reasonable by the University. When students register for classes, they are encouraged to share their request for the upcoming term with ODS, as soon as possible. Drexel offers classes through multiple modes and mediums, but particularly students requesting auxiliary aids and services for classes offered on a term basis, are well served by discussing registration options with the ODS staff well in advance. The term, rather than a semester, operates on a shorter time table, and with greater frequency.
Students with disabilities need to evaluate the content of the courses, meetings, and events to ensure that the appropriate request is being made to ODS. ODS encourages students to evaluate the content and learning outcome of the course, prior to registration. When changes occur, students need to communicate their requests to ODS.
