Commuter, Graduate and Transfer Student Programs and Services (CGTSPS) enhances the University’s mission by the creation of community through transformative learning opportunities. In the summer of 2007, CGTSPS created a new substantive programmatic curriculum based upon the concept of Learning Communities

During summer training the Commuter and Transfer Assistants defined a Learning Community as a group of people dedicated to learning in a specific area through peer education and discussion where a support system and culture is developed through common interests.

With this definition in mind, CGTSPS created a curriculum surrounding 8 areas:

Programming Curriculum

Professional Development: Programs in this area seek to provide students with skills and knowledge to help enhance both personal development and career advancement. Past Professional Development events include:

  • Tips on your independent job search
  • Business Etiquette dinner
  • I Would'a, Should'a, Could'a- Stories from Alumni

Navigating Drexel: Programs in this area are designed to help ease the transition to Drexel University and equip students with the tools needed to succeed in both academic and co-curricular endeavors. Past Navigating Drexel events include:

  • Commuter Townhall: Meeting with Public Safety
  • Getting Equipped: Navigatign the Advising Experience
  • Get into the lab! Undergraduate Research Opportunities on Campus

Drexel School Spirit: Programs involving school spirit aim to increase pride in being a Drexel Dragon! Past Drexel Spirit events include:

  • Appreicate a Dragon Day
  • School Spirit Barbeque
  • Feel the Fire Commuters!

Fine Arts and Culture: Fine Arts and Culture events seek to educate students about the rich and unique culture surrounding them on campus and in the greater community. In addition, programs in this category foster an appreication for all mediums of expression and art. Past programs in this area include:

  • History of Rock & Roll Quizzo
  • Trip to the African American Museum of Philadelphia
  • Hip Hop Dance Class

Environmental Sustainability: Sustainability events are designed to educate students about their impact on the earth. In today's society, making smart chocies about the enviroment is key, and Sustainability events both raise awareness of environmental issues and seek solutions to the problems we face. Past events include:

  • Solar Energy Workshop
  • Going Green: What Does it Mean?
  • Showing of An Inconvenient Truth

Health & Wellness: CGTSPS aims to help students deveop into well rounded and balanced individuals. Programs in this category are intended to help students learn tips and tricks for mantaining physical and emotional health. Past events in this area include:

  • Eating Healthy Around Campus...Event at the Lunch Trucks
  • Yoga on the Quad
  • On the Go: Meals in 20 Minutes- Commuter Cooking Demonstration

Social Justice and Community Service: Events in this area promote giving back to the community and building an inclusive campus community. These events promote action and open conversation, and try to make this campus and the world a better place! Past events include:

  • SafeZone Training
  • Canned Food Drive
  • Enginners without Borders Boxed Lunch

Family Involvement: CGTSPS understands that not all commuter students are traditional-aged students. Many students have families of their own, and events in this area seek to connect Dragon families with Drexe's campus! Previous events include:

  • Parents and Me Day: Campus Tours & Bowling!
  • Trip to the Please Touch Museum
  • Family Ice Skating at the River Rink!
