Lessons for High School
High school athletes are the intended audience of this single lesson program. The lesson materials include a PowerPoint presentation that’s ready to go! Student handouts, educator lesson plans and evaluation tools can be used along with this presentation to complement or extend the lesson. Highlights of this workshop formatted lesson include healthy food choices that are important for high school athletes, adequate fueling and the best types of food to choose the day of a big competition, hydration and its importance in proper beverage selection for overall performance, and what a young athlete needs to know about the dangers of supplement use and abuse.
Individual lessons are available to embed nutrition topics into the academic curriculum. Pennsylvania academic standards have been identified for each lesson. Currently relevant topics such as healthy beverage selection and eating in fast food restaurants are presented in a manner appealing to students in grades 9 – 12.
This is a series of four lessons which assist teen participants to improve their dietary behavior and intake, and increase their knowledge of good nutrition practices.
